Default What type of coilover's to get?

In everyone's oppinion, who makes the best basic coilover system?

By basic I mean height, but not dampening adjustable.

Tein and JIC both has entry level coilover's. I'm looking at Tein Basic's right now.

Anyone have any good.bad experiences with them? The car is a Scion xA, btw.

I'm also trying to find coilover's which have higher spring rates in the rear than in the front. This is ideal for reducing understeer on a FF car, correct?

Well. its not having higher spring rates than the front. What it is is having a higher rearward BIAS in spring rate. Remember that 75% or more of the weight in your car is over the front wheels. So if stock is like 4/1 it needs to be modified to like 5/3 or something, getting the ratio between the two to be more level.

Just get Tien Basics.. They can be rebuilt in the US for cheap, will work on your application, and are simple.

Or you can make coilovers. What kind of setup does that car have?

Car has weird rear suspension. It's not double wishbone. I forget the name but, the spring does not sit over the strut like up front.

I also meant to ask, what happens when coilover's "blow"? I'm assuming they need to then be rebuilt? How much does that usually run to rebuild them? How often do they need to be rebuilt?

I have the JIC Flta2 coilovers and its like riding on a cloud. JIC makes an incrdible product. I would say they have the upperhand over Tein's product. ONly thing I like form tein ae their springs and the edfc elect. dampening controller.

I would agree that JIC's are better than Tien, but you cant rebuild a JIC for 100 a shock, you just have to buy new coilovers for much more...

Tien basics arent THAT hardly sprung so they should last long enough that you never have to really worry about it.

Not true. I know two people whom have already had their FltA2 rebuilt. JIC lets you pic diff spring rates and everything. Its just prolly more of a hassel than anything.
