We don't use the entire thing for the course. Part of the site is shared with a motorcycle training program. We use part for paddock and part for grid.

I just got an e-mail from Albert, he said this autocross has to be rescheduled. Official word coming shortly. He did mention the 15th and 16th. So if that means this month then we have a conflict with the Sunriders event. :( Sucks that CFR has to start out the year like this. I was looking forward to the Sunriders thing too.

:bbb: :bbb: :bbb: :bbb: :bbb: :bbb: :bbb: :bbb:

I already requested off work for the 29th and 30th event as well.

Leonard
01-05-2005, 06:57 PM
I hope that's wrong. Rescheduling and moving to an earlier date would kill event attendance this closely. Functionally, it's the same reason we can't run events at the Fairgrounds as people can't make plans to attend with that short of notice. We can't willingly do things to hurt attendance we'll start to go negative on events like we did at Gainesville and be back on the poo list with the CFR executive management.

On top of it, it conflicts with the Sunriders event. :bbb::bbb::bbb::bbb::bbb::bbb::bbb::bbb:

Nunyo is working on it now. I guess the only person Albert told was me.

I thought it would be better to get the word out than just sit on this info, being as we are only 9 days out from the reschedule.

mofugga
01-06-2005, 12:29 PM
it'd probably be better to cancel it altogether if not enough people will be there to atleast break even. that said, i'm still going & can help out with whatever

Leonard
01-06-2005, 02:07 PM
Here's the official word from Nunyo (aka Tony Adams --Event Chair/Solo Safety Steward/All around good guy)

There is an
RV/Motorhome club that meets at the Hernando County airport. They've
scheduled an event for the week starting immediately after the 30th.
Originally we were told that there would be no conflict if we ran on
that Sunday. Evidently, Albert was recently told otherwise. I just
got
off the phone with him. The event has indeed been rescheduled for the
15th and 16th of January. All other details should remain the same.
Please pass the word along to other pertinent email lists and web
forums.

<official word>
The January West Coast CFR event weekend will be 1/15-1/16.
</official word>

Thanks for your patience.

nunyo
01-06-2005, 02:46 PM
Thanks Leonard, you help a lot with spreading the word on various things, and it is greatly appreciated. This particular situation bugs me as we (CFR) come off looking like a bunch of bumbling fools. We were shot down on moving the event to one week sooner and we didn't want to just cancel January's event. It's been too long since my last autocross, I need to get back in there. Thanks again for your patience, I apologize for the confusion and I hope that most, if not all of you can make it out to at least one of the event days.

If you combine our Saturday with Sunrider's Sunday it should be a big seat time weekend. Just hope you've got enough tire for it.

Mars:
Thanks for referring me to this board. I didn't know you had won the novice class. Congrats! I think it was you and I and two other guys, but not sure. One was in the 300zx, but I don't remember the other one. Do you? I think my quickest time was a 54.5xx or a 54.6xx. I can't wait until they post the final results.

One of the guys at the tent said after your third event, you are no longer a novice. At that time would you be in the same class as the gold Camaro? I know your car is a beast (it sure sounds like one), but that Camaro was insane! :)

Mars_302
01-17-2005, 11:39 AM
Yea the other novice was the 300zx. And weclome to the board :) From my understanding of the rules, I wont be in his class due to my headwork and cam for starters.

Damn none of me. So what mods you got on the z32?

vg30deracer
01-17-2005, 10:02 PM
if i remember correctly you were running right after the cone eating CRX? that thing had me running, no time to snap pics. as far as mods go, just the rims and brakes at the moment.
rims and tires are pretty standard 18x7.5 yokohamas
brakes..... crossdrilled and slotted rotors all the way around, stainless brake lines, axxis carbon metalic pads. i also have an intake and some hard pipes on it. im in the process of upgrading the suspension. i have a set of subframe spacers and a sway bar that needs to go in. with in the next few months i plan on an AGX/eibach combo. hopefully that will take care of the wicked understeer im experiencing under heavy braking(around that damn pivot for example) you were pretty damn quick, and your car sounded mean. congrats. i thought i had a lock on the novice group with a 51.xx and one cone! what was your best?

Unless you are taking pictures of my car. :)

Mars_302

52.7 with no cones. I was keeping an eye on your times, when I see your last time I really couldnt make it out if it said 51.6 or 56.xx

I have a bit few mods too, some of them are acutally hurt me a bit too much power and not enough tire at times when accelerating. And I think my LSD will finally need arebuild soon after 140k miles. On the turn around and snap into the throttle I was getting 1 wheel peel half the time. In fact the other tire didnt even start spinning even after getting straight.

I got FRPP springs, KYB shocks and struts, bbk caster/camber plates, lower k member brace, and steeda steel RUCA. Nothing really major for a mustang. I have enough engine mods to put me at slightly over 300 hp at the crank.

My brakes are stock, dont really need major brakes or anything, be nice to be able to dive a little deeper though.

Cya out at the next event though, and welcome to TR :)

Hey i'm the guy with the silver wrx. the dude in the blue mustang had a big camera right. so where are the pictures?

also, i'm hoping the results will be posted up soon. i want to know how i did in pax. 45.7xxx with an STX pax of .802. hopefully in the top 10.

Mars_302
01-17-2005, 10:57 PM
I had a big camera, but like jeremy said, no course workers are to have camera, so I didnt bring my out when i worked ;) Not like it would have been able to use it, Spot 5 was busy as fuck with all the fast guys.

That older guy was taking shots, but he still prints only. Btw whats the thing with him not having a spotter most of the time he was out there?

w0rd
01-17-2005, 11:03 PM
As long as he is 75 feet away he can be considered a spectator. That's up to the event chairman/safety steward though.

He wanted to get closer and asked if I could get him a spotter, but if he is selling prints then he can bring his own. We were obviously short handed anyway.

vg30deracer
01-17-2005, 11:22 PM
he did have a spotter! if he only sells prints, how am i suppost know what kind of shots he has of me? i was at station 4, i wasnt that busy. i was only taking pics after the preceding car left the 3rd cone in the 7 cone nighmare! so i only had a window of about 10 seconds to accually take pics befor the following driver left the pivot area. i had no idea cameras were not allowed on the course, i appoligize to everyone, my bad. and where are the final results?

Mars_302
01-18-2005, 12:21 AM
Woulda bene nice to have had a camera when the WRX came sliding towards me at spot 5, I thought that car was never gonna stop.

mrf582
01-18-2005, 12:55 AM
yup, i had both feet in getting ready to stop on course. realized that the other car coming down the slalom might not have enough time to see me and stop. so i got back on the gas seeing i had enough room between stations 4 and 5. it was a little scary but i felt i was still in control of the situation. just felt bad about the workers who didn't know what i was goign to do.

the reason for that slide was b/c of my left rear tire. when i looked at it at the end of the day, there were a lot of cords showing through. a good 1.5 inch wide section about half way around.

after the mini offset slalom at the start, the dip to the right is where the rear end came out. i countersteered, and the car pendulumed over and i put both feet in at that time realizing there was no hope. there were countless other times during the day where the car was on edge and i actually had to switch hands while countersteering to keep it pointed straight. but that time, i realized there was no hope.

sideways is fun :)

Rosko
01-18-2005, 10:13 AM
Well, damn, it looks like I've got last place in the novice class. I'll use that for incentive next time! My original goal was to be within one second of the slowest time. We'll see how that turns out.

For the record, Charles Ray = Rosko = Mazda6 #661

Sam, thanks for the great pictures. Due to my adoration for 300zx's I was watching you close when you passed my station. The motor sounded pretty good with the throttle wide open.

Tony, I'm not sure if I'm an autocross junkie yet, but I'm definitely going to try my best to make it to every event. In fact, I'm even looking for events outside SCCA to get more practice. I've heard they run at the USF Sun Dome parking lot sometimes. Anyone know more?

Looking for some advice: My rear end seemed planted pretty well on Saturday, but when I pushed just a little bit hard on Sunday, it kept coming loose. By the end of the day I had decided that my almost full tank of gas on Saturday and running on fumes Sunday might have something to do with it. The more likely explanation is my lack of skill driving, or different courses on both days or both. Anyone care to comment?

vg30deracer

i was going to post them on tt.net, but i would probably get deleated for NZR. just out of curiosity what station were you working? the only section i could really get on it was going into and out of the pivot at the back of the course, and just befor the finish!

Mike

dammit, i cant believe i missed this thread!!!!!!!!!!!!!

nunyo
01-19-2005, 09:11 PM
When the rear end starts coming loose in otherwise well planted front wheel drive cars, what immediate comes to mind is that you are turning the wheel while still braking. When on the brakes you remove weight from the rear wheels and transfer it to the front. Some cars require this trail braking to really make the most of them (Subarus especially in my experience). You might try doing more of your braking in a straight line and allowing some weight to transfer back to the rear wheels before turning the steering wheel. Chances are your car will respond well to some trail braking, but too much and the rear will get sloppy.

Mars_302
01-20-2005, 12:07 AM
A full tank of gas does help, at least for me anyway. I usually do lower my rear tire pressure a little, and that did help on previous events with keeping my rear end planted. This event I didnt mess with air pressure, I dont know even know where they are at. I usually like to run 40 up front and 26 in the rear. This semed to worked well for my car though, which is a different animal than a Mazda 6.

Where you still using your traction control at the end of the day?

Rosko
01-20-2005, 10:15 AM
vg30deracer, I was on station 2, which was plenty close enough to hear everyone floor it before and after they circled around the back of the course. It wasn't super loud, but it had a good tone to it.

nunyo, I was definitely turning while braking. I was under the impression that this would give the front more grip, enabling me to resist understeer, which obviously it does, but ... I didn't think about it giving =too much= grip in front and not enough in back. Lesson learned.

mars, Yes, definitely a different animal. In fact, I think your car is an animal and mine is a plant :) I only turned off TCS once or twice. The result? Hard to say. I'm a novice and drive inconsistently. I believe my best time of the day was with TCS on. Since then I've talked to another Mazda6 autocrosser who says always turn it off. One thing I noticed is that with it off, there's a helluva lot more tire squealing.

actually, i would guess that the picture was taken right after teh sharp left after you get done with the pivot. b/c the next car is till waiting at the start. if it was the slalom, the next car would be on it's way already. not to mention that the blue mustang in the picture is pointed pretty straight. in a slalom, you're never ever have teh wheels pointed straight for longer than 1 nanosecond.

you know once you take the pivot cone and you have to slow down a little to that eh sharp dip left and then sharp right through the bus - stop. well, i think this picture was taken just before the mustang driver began turing right for the bustop.

vg30deracer
01-22-2005, 02:56 PM
i was at station 4, i saw the cars comming from that point! i was never behind them untill the slalom. also ross(car in the background) is well past the start. notice the direction cones laying down. those were not used at the start finish. you are right about the wheels being straight! my *best guess* was the slalom, thats where i took almost all my pics!
see ya tomarrow morn at godfathers.
