Hey guys,
I got a 2001 Nissan Altima GXE bone stock and the first thing that i want to do is a sound system upgrade. First, i was wondering what kind of subs i should go with. The thing is I don't want subs that are ridiculously loud. I want the kind that can be quiet but can step up if someone challenges, in other words a versatile one. So, if anyone could tell me a good sub, amp or head unit, it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!!

what kind of price range do you have? If you want to be able to "step up" your bass on command, i'd recommend getting an amp with a remote gain so you control your bass level easily.
id actually avoid the remote gain amp.. nothing like the ability to drive an amp into clipping at your fingertips. I would go with a head unit with a sub level control, and then set it so zero = "stepping up" and you can keep it on -2 or -3 the rest of the time.. thats what I do.

wait what does a remote gain amp do and mean? In terms of price range, somewhere between $1500-$2000 is how much i can plan on shelling out, but I want to try not to use it all. Someone was telling me that 2 Alpine 10's will be able to do the job as well. How would those work out? Thanks!!!

Everyone's perception of "loud" is different...so it'd be hard to give you any suggestions on what subs to buy. Go to a couple audio shops and audition whatever is in your price range. I agree with Jesse though as far as getting a deck with seperate sub controls, it will allow you to customize your sound very easily. Remote gains are nothing but distortion knobs.

Hey,
went to best buy today and checked out some of their subs. I saw 2 duals in a box going for like 141.99 and they have 600 RMS and 1100 peak. So, i think i might go for that. i hafta go check out decks but thanks for those ideas.
