View Full Version : DEI sucks balls

Dei customer service and tech support, not the product. this isn't audio but its alarms and they go hand in hand alot.

I think the dei alarms, the viper in particular, are awsome. However their customer service sucks. I called to try and get an install manual for a 791xv viper alarm ( the one with the lcd screen) the top of the viper line. I told them I was getting not one but 2 alarms. The first hting out of their mouth was if your not a dealer we can't give you the install manual, you have to goto a dealer to have it installed. I tried to explain that I have been to 3 of their dealers in the area and each one has fucked up something on the car.

my 01 civic would pop the trunk while I was driving down the highway, what does buzz off do? tells me to come in without an appointment and then yells at me when I show up without an appointment.

my crx was hacked up by brandon city stereo. I had wired the door locks, window modules, and door pop solenoids into the car. I labeled all the wires they needed and told them not to touch the agu fuse holders, I get the car back and they diked the 8gauge wire from the agu fuse holder and butt spliced it 3 inches from the fuse ( the fuse that has an allen wrench set screw used to disconnect the power wire from the fuse). I had all kinds of relays intermitantly clicking and they didn't help me when I brought up the problems.

so my answer was to go to car stereo shoppe in brandon, EVEN BIGGER MISTAKE. they hacked even more wires, fried a window module, and the viper brain. and what did they tell me? call dei yourself, we aren't going to deal with it. ( and this is back when they were dei dealers). I also found out just the other day why my horns burned out on me when the alarm went off.......they wired the horn straight into the siren so that the horn went off solid with the siren. Instead of using the horn honk wire that is like 2 wires over on the connector.

after I tell dei all theis they say well sometimes you get a bad experience but not everyone is like that......I'm sorry but 3 out of 3 installers that I went to fuck up and I'm supposed to goto the 4th?

so I try to explain that these installers are young 18-24 (for the most part) and can't tell a diode from a p/n junction ( if you understood that you know where I am coming from) ( if you didn't understand that they are the same thing). I tried to tell the guy that these "kids" are more likely to fry something than I am with a degree in electronics. The fucker tells me that the rules are rules and they can't give the instructions to me, "if god wanted them he would have to be a dealer". wtf. then he tries to say that dei has never given out the install guides, funny I downloaded a viper one a year and a half ago. he also tries to tell me that there is no such thing as a consumer installed viper, because they are not contractually allowed to be sold to the public without being installed first, this fucker has not been on ebay......ever.

the end result I still like the viper alarm, and I found the install guide elsewhere online 10 minutes later.

just a rant and heads up
1. dont expect help from these shitheads.
2. dont go to any of the shopps I listed in my rant....unless you like your car fucked up.

telling directed youre a tech at best buy will work, all you need to give them is the zip code and store number.......I just did that yesterday when I was doing a 791xv with transponder bypass in an 02 galant, the 791 is badass

did you know anyone at these places? were you recommended to go to them from friends or what? cuz if i were buying 2 alarms and having a shitload of not-too-easy labor being done, id make damn well sure they knew what they were doing.

Anyway, good luck in the future, and DIY never fails.

hell yeah diy for life. I did all the wiring except the alarm to that point cause I didn't want to fry anything, but after seeing what they did and getting a degree in this kind of shit I do my own shit and all the stuff for my family. I was reccommended to buzz off by a friend, went to brandon city stereo cause my wife (g/f at the time) got her tint done there, and went to car stereo shoppe because it was the biggest shop in brandon. just goes to show that a fancy show room, 10-20 techs and an install bay doesn't mean your worth a fuck.

oh one more thing the ass from dei said was that every system out there is just as good as the next but the install is what makes or breaks it. wtf. die=crime gaurd?????

how do I find out what the stor number is for the best buy in brandon?

I am getting 2 alarms off the web, and doing all the custom shit myself, I just got the wiring diagrams from mazda for my moms car. it's a piece of cake.

thanks for the help, but I was able to find the install manual in pdf, plus the damn thing came with the alarm in the box. I have no doubt there are some good installers but since I went to 3 places and all 3 struckout I didn't want to chance it. I have seen some books in borders about the m.e.c.p. certification and thought about getting it (depending on whats involved). for the skilled person, I am that person:D , I have no "professional" experience, but my A.S. in Electronic engineering will probably keep me from frying something important and if it doesn't then the B.S. I am currently going for will:) . thanks for the help and I will keep you in mind should I run into a snag.
