I believe that there are differnt categories of big dogs.

you can be a big dog at the:

Drag strip

or

From a Roll on the "closed course"

or

from a dig on the closed course.

The vibe i've gotten is that most of the "big dogs" race from a roll, on a "closed course" near you.

The best part would have been going at it on the track with my 302 vs. his 383 but Al has been on a extended vacation so I could not wait any longer before tearing mine down. It would have been fun watching him in the mirror until the 900 ft. mark after I upped the boost a few more lbs.. :smirk:

I think its 1/8th mph * 1.17 = 1/4 mph.

Was dead on for me when I sampled some complete runs before the auto.

So with the right converter my 6.64 was good for a 10.29.

Like I have said many times.. ET's mean nothing on the street. In my 346ci I use to beat low 11 second cars all night on the street. Where is my time slip? I dont have one.. Hell there are many NA cars running 10's and people are bragging about running those times on the spray.. I think perspective is in order here. To become a Big Dawg the run has to be from a complete stop. Whether at the track or the street. The start and the finish line need to be marked off. None of this slamming on the brakes and claiming you won shit. Both cars need to start at the same time. Yes I roll race, but I do that to show the power I am making, not to claim victories against someone who has less power. Some people claim a win no matter how it is achieved. Cheating is not winning. It is just putting off the inevitable.

And for this whats a street car and whats a race car crap... LOL!! Sounds like some of us have built in excuses on why they wont race someone or why they are going to lose.

I say retire like I have and you would be much happier..

Yes some of them have achieved a 10 second and even a 9 second time slip. Most of them are not running at this point though. Old times mean nothing when you change your setup. Therefore what you had does not count.

The question is what do you expect to run this time around James?

I would like to see this list. Just so one day, if I happen to line up against one of them, I know to bring my A game so when I lose it will at least be somewhat of a challenge for them. But that is down the road a little bit. And as stated in a previous post, some people can not drive on the street but put down nice times on the track. While others are exactly the same. Many different variables. One usually races during the day while other is usually during the night.

What I am trying to do is eliminate the bickering about the question of weight. There are some domestic owners that overlook the fact that there are some very light domestic rear drive platforms that would readily accept an engine swap.

ok from reading this post...... i think i'll try to edit this list.


1. 93Supra.........down, in the shop, something about making it better for both the 1/4 and roll

2. Cbrtrx..... still holding his own very nicely, i won't even get into how cheaply this car is going this fast for.....

3. qitstrn.......down, shop getting cage.(my .02 is its a race car, but a very clean one at that. nothing wrong with that but getting shit for running race gas is the only reason why some people never do it. but its like i used to say about n2o, they sell it you anyone, not my fault you didn't buy it too.

4. 2NASSTY....... down but will be back, i'm sure very nassty. but as of now = down(still sorry to hear about it)

5. 78mphgpr........ haven't seen many posts in awhile, so i don't know if he's down,

6. JuicedSS262........down, sounds like for a little while more

7. 01 Bird of Prey........ down, but very very close. (i think al will have his hands full as the fastest street ls1, and from one with nothing removed....(nicer than it was stock.)

8. J. Formato........down. not sure for how long, but needs atleast head to really be a big dawg. but very fast for what it is. but its down as of last i heard.

jerry's little yellow AWD............ very clean, nicest import out there to me, i think he's the fastest pump gas import and his car is alway up... even if you don't see it out, it can be. i give him points for being pump gas.....and 130+ in a AWD.........and running from a dig......and has done it for money...........

Not to be a nutswinger here, but another cool thing about the yellow car is that Jerry hasn't even been going all out for maximum HP with it. For example, he's using a funky dual-length runner intake manifold from a JDM market car (the Cyclone Manifold) designed for better mid-range torque and around-town driving when a sheetmetal intake would probably be worth at least 30hp and maybe as much as 50. He's given up on bigger turbos before because they lost spool and low-end power. The car is full of little things like that, compromises to keep the street fun factor up that take away from absolute straight-line speed.

yeah that seems to be his thing. if it doesn't spool by 3000 and spin all 4 tires in the first 2 gears, he thinks its no fun to drive.

i myself would run c16 and a much bigger turbo and try to beat everyone. but then again i'll be the first to say i couldn't build or keep that car together like he does. so he's doing something right

we all would love to have a 8sec street car but that shit is just about undoable............

my .02 is that if runs on 7$ gal fuel that its not really a street car any more. everyones idea of whats streetable is different, thats just mine.

i'm really kinda easy on the race fuel thing, if your just mixing in some 100 just to be safe. i can see that. but just c-16 is just a little far for a street car, to me...

I dont have to run race gas. I have made 400whp on pump gas. Point is i built it for much more and yes i can beat most people on pump gas but i need race gas to compete with the crowd i want run with. I'm going up against cars with 2 power adders and double the cylinders. I dont see anything wrong with running race gas. if its there use it. I could get into that car and drive to NY if i wanted to. Thats a street car.

What does it matter what gas you use when racing? Higher octane fuel is just used for safety. If you can get more out of it during a race with race gas then why not? V8's have been using race gas for a long time on the street.

There is only so much power you can put to the ground safely with an inline four cylinder (not directed towards you Ron). If I was making 400+whp right now I would be running race gas on the street as well.

Ron, have you ever looked into propane injection? I have been looking into it a little lately as I have ditched the alcohol injection in favor of propane injection (PM me if you want instead of replying to the thread).

I don't see running race gass occasionally as meaning that a car is not a street car. There are plenty of cars that do that on both sides of the house. I see a lot of the blower\nitrous\turbo domestics running race gas at the track and turning the wick way up on the power adders, then dailing them back for pump gas on the street and every day driving just like the import guys do.

you seem to be missing the difference between mixing in a few gals of a 100 in to be safe and running all, leaded c-16.

I think you will pretty much have to use race gas in this day and age to compete. As long as you can drive it out....I dont see an issue. We are talking about cars with 800-900 rwhp here on some of the V8s and 400-700 on some of the very small import motors. Race gas is a must.

Again...I see it as....who will take the steps necassary to be faster. At some point..race gas is a necessary step. You can either use race gas to aid in extracting the extra HP...or you can limit yourself to 93 octane.

The only car I have ever seen that would compete on pump is Marks 240Z

Not for nothing here but race gas is a far cry from nitrous and if your gonna go out to race break down and buy some tires. Either that or stop crying. I'm no big dog but I use both to get any advantage I can.

I will race from a dig. It will not show my full potential on street tires, but that was my point for racing the last tr event on street tires. I will be back out soon with some new tires and fine tuning the boost and run on street tires from a dig. Although roll racing will be my best run, racing from a dig is cool too.

christ this thread is now starting to drag on past my patience level, im sorry but roll racing if just plain goofy IMO, you will never see me roll race any of my personal cars, you can try to set all the rules you want in a roll race but the fact is you can not make it fair, the only roll race that i can actually see working is to go until someone fades away at top speed, thats what I used to do on bikes and thats the only "roll" race I would do in a car. on the other hand you can go, from a stop, with a starter, to a marked off point, geez theres an idea. we can get an actual winner that way with no excuses. now lets move on to the street tire, street car, race gas, blah blah blah.... run what you brung period. who cares whats done and what it runs on. ive been around for all phases, from back win a 11.90 car would rule to when an 8.90 car was needed, until now when a solid 10.0 car will demolish all, that is unless a few of the old guys come back out. i'm sorry that I and a few others set up there cars to run on the street what they run at the track, maybe people should stop being so power hungry and just try to get some of that shit on the concrete. back to previous topic, i'm not saying roll racing isnt fun, it is, but its just that fun, and shouldnt be taken as a serious way to judge two cars against each other, unless some serious ground rules are laid down, as far as im concerned you can hit your brakes at 130 and tell everyone you shut down at 140 and where ahead by a car when the other guy was about to fly by, even when you race for free who wants to lose.
