View Full Version : Rookiee needs help....Just got 1 kicker solobaric 10-inch

I built a custom box for this solobaric..but its not kicking at all....I know I didn't give it much airspace.....which could be a problem???.....could I drill some holes to help with the airspace or just build a bigger enclosed box.
if the box is too small it will restrict the movement of the sub, and the ability to even make noise. BUT for it to be totally quiet the box would have to be rediculously small, and horribly underpowering the sub.
is it playing but jus tnot very loud?

Its playing but not giving good bass at all.
everything is good on the amp? gains proper, etc? ohm load?

did you just randomly make a box out of wood?? Look up the recommended air space you the subs, and make a box to spec.

ITs a brand new amp. Yes I made the box out of wood with LITTLE AIRSPAcE. If I drill holes on the box to give airspace....will this help?

No, don't do that. How is everything setup? What exact sub is it (single/dual voice coil, how many ohms, etc)? And what exact amp do you have running it and how is it wired? As for the box, what are the dimensions of it?

Definately don't drill holes in the box. You can try stuffing the box with polyfill it should help some.
What dimensions are the box. I tend to agree with everyone else... it's probably not entirely the box.

I agree. Back in high school when I didn't know jack shit I just took 2 10s and made a huge box out of wood and hooked them up to a 2 channel amp. Had no clue you could even run 2 speakers off 1 amp or anything about ohms at all.

I dont have the exact dimension on the box right now....but its DEFINETELY small than KICKER recommendation. Anyone in St. pete or Tampa...can can look at my setup & box?

if you put pollyfill in the box, it will decrease the airspace, and it'll probably sound worse. just make a new box. Or tell us the model number, and we'll give you a simple design.

I got a kicker solobaric square L7 10".

minimum recommended sealed space is 2/3 ft^3 and max is 1 ft^3 so .85 ft^3 should be good. make it easy on yourself, and make the face 1' by 1'. and make if 15" deep. That is assuming that you use 3/4" MDF board. It will give you an internal volume of very close to .86, and the subwoofer should displace a little of that volume.

Wow...15" deep....mind only got 5 inches deep max right now...maybe that's the problem. What's teh differences between serial vs parrallel wiring?? I have an alpine 5-channel amp....was planning to run the speaker box with this amp.

First off putting polyfill in a box slows down the air inside the box 'tricking' the speaker into thinking it's in a larger enclosure. Secondly, a 1'x1'x1.25' enclosure would be > 1 cube.

What's the model of the amp? Also, is the sub dual 2ohm or dual 4ohm? Oh and can you get us the exact dimensions of the box?

Ok I'll get hte dimension for you guys tommorrow. The sub is a 4oohm I think.

not internal volume. 10.5" by 10.5" by 13.5" equals .875' by .875' by 1.125' and gives an internal volume of .861328125 ft^3. This is assuming that he uses 3/4" MDF board for the construction of this enclosure. Sorry you mis-understood me.

I got an alpine 5-channel amp with 800w. Speaker is 4omh i think.
the box demension is 12h * 6depth * 12width.

that box gives you an external volume of about .5 ft^3 what did you built it out of? What is the model number on the amplifier?

Sounds like too little air space and not enough power. You really need to put that sub in a box about 2 cubic ft. and give it atleast 400w rms to get it moving.

+1.. to little air space. you deff. have no idea what your doing do you? lol

I got an ALPINE MRV-F450 V12 5-channel amp
Broadway

would be best to get a mono amp, cuz that alpine will only put out about 200 RMS max, and you need double that
integraboi1010
10-12-2004, 09:10 PM
So if I get an apline amp that pushes 550 watts RMS x 1 at 2 ohms . It should be able to push my solobaric L7 10inch fine?

So if I get an apline MONO amp that pushes 550 watts RMS x 1 at 2 ohms . It should be able to push my solobaric L7 10inch fine? Or I need something in the 700-1000 watts range? I dont really like it super loud, just nice bass :)
Here's the spec for Kicker speaker:
RMS Power Handling 600Watts
Peak Power Range 1200Watts
Impedance ( Ohms ) Dual voice coils
Sensitivity 85.6dB
Frequency Response 24-0.1KHz
Cone Material Titanium-deposit poly
Surround Material Santoprene Rubber
And here's the spec for my current amp:
· 50 watts RMS x 4 + 200 watts RMS x 1 at 4 ohms
· 60 watts RMS x 4 at 2 ohms + 200 watts RMS x 1 at 4 ohms
· 120 watts RMS x 2 + 200 watts RMS x 1 in bridged mode
· 2-, 3-, 4-, or 5-channel output
· Tri-Way capable
· Requires 8-gauge power and ground leads
· MOSFET power supply
· STAR Topology (minimizes internal noise and prevents ground interference
· Oversized power and ground connections
· Gold-plated screw terminals
· Top-mounted controls with cover
· Detachable front cover
· Blue power LED

how many ohms is your subwoofer?
integraboi1010
10-13-2004, 09:04 AM
Its a 4omh subs. But I can wire it to 2omhs.

Yea I know for sure I wired it wrong...I need to rewire it to 2ohm. But do you think I can run my 200watts at 2omhs for this sub? Or get a new amp?
i dont belive that the alpine 5 channel amps support running at 2 ohms for the sub output. So I would say new sub or new amp. new sub might be a better idea imho

Would 550 watts 2ohm amp be ok to push this sub?
Broadway

that should be enuff
make sure its 550 Wats RMS and Not 550 watts max

it depends on what kinda bass you're looking for and how much you have to spend because probably your cheapest option would be to get rid of the solobaric and get like a kicker comp vr with dual 8ohm voice coils and run it 4 ohm mono on your alpine amp it would be enough power to make it sound good i have the same sub in my girls hatchback with a 2 channels bridged on a kenwood 50x4 amp and it play all kinds of music and has good bass response
