I was thinking of getting one Image Dynamics IDQ12 D4 V.2 (http://www.cardomain.com/item/IDSIDQ12D4V2) sub for the price, the good reviews and the compact box volume requirements.

Now I can't decide one which amp is best suited for this sub. I have the following choices:
Alpine MRP-M350 (http://www.crutchfield.com/S-gGtP64vsbSN/cgi-bin/ProdView.asp?s=0&c=3&g=130&I=500MRPM350&o=v&a=0&cc=01&avf=N&search=) 350 watts RMS x 1 at 2 ohms
Kicker KX400.1 (http://www.cardomain.com/item/KIC04KX4001) 400W x 1 @ 2 ohms

Which amp would you guys recommend?

add DLS to that list... a little cheaper than ARC and just as good if not better (from what i hear... i've never owned an arc amp)... of those two choices i'd go with the kicker, that amp will power it just fine.

I'll second ARC, great quality...probably twice as much as the amps you listed though.

check out this (http://www.mmxpress.com/id.html) place. they got the idq12 for 160 and free shipping. Image dynamics subwoofers are awesome. My brother has two idq10s that i built a box for, and they are some of the best i have ever heard.

You should look into an amp that has a remote gain so that you can turn off the sub if need be. It helps when there are cops around and stuff.

ARC 2100cxl

In fact I ran that exact setup for a little while, after my previous sub amp burned up, sounded pretty darn good!

Remote gain is a worthless toy really. Most decks nowadays have built-in sub controls. And if for some reason you ever wanted to cut the sub off, you could always wire a simple switch into the remote turn-on for the amp.

but then i can't hear it anymore. idk, i'm just screwed up, and would rather turn my sub down a little while i drive by a cop or something. And i like to be able to easily change the bass level depending on the song that i am listening to. it's just easier for me to use a gain.

I think remote gains could be better referred to as "distortion knobs."

But that's a misuse of the gain controls. As I understand it from bcae1.com, a gain is used to match the output of the head unit with the amp so that the max output of the amp or the max output the speakers can take is reached at a certain volume level on the head unit, usually around 3/4 of the way to full. The only time you'd want to use it as a "volume control" is when you've properly set the gains for, say, the fronts and subs and one is overpowering the other, in which case you can turn the louder speakers' gain down.
