well, what is this drift jazz i keep hearing about...me and buck were talkin a lil and then we had another rainy league night at TBGP, so i decided to drift the last few laps, and found i had a knack for it. granted they are go karts and not real auto's with suspension setups and such, i was able to hold and carry drifts from turn to turn. so just kinda figured id ask you all what was up, anywhere somewhat legal to do this stuff at? do alot of ya meet up?

Yeh man I know a guy that drifts a Trans Am (guessing that is what you drive). Well as far as legal drifting you should come out to Drift Day 3. It will be so much fun. If you dont want to drive then you can spectate and get an idea what this drifting stuff is all about.

Here is the info:

i wouldnt be drifting the bird...that is way to risky in my eyes. i would be in an s13/s14/rx7 or something to that effect. what are the choice cars for this sorta stuff? might be able to trade the sentra off for something to play with and keep a DD.

There needs to be more Domestics out there. FC's are awesome and cheap. I would get an FC if I didnt have a 240 already picked out.

as much as i would like to, its more for straight line and would probably spin way to easily. no front sway bar, drag radials, and a sloppy rear suspension setup that works pretty well for weight transfer. plus its an LT1...there'd be more oil on the ground than rubber. id like to find a nice cheap FC to play with, but not sure how reliable those 12a's and 13b's are..i hear some horror stories with rotaries..plus i have to figure, the car will probably be used as a sleeper. anyone know if the early 90's volvo 740 turbo wagons were rwd? ive been lookin at getting one for a while, 350hp 2700lb wagon would be fun.

now just to find one with a muncie....as far as lacking power, i can really fubar the camber to compensate  or just go to home depot, get more dremel bits, and a boost controller, then find a fuel pump, and fmu...think ill call it the draggin' wagon

Ive got a 740 Turbo Wagon . Tis still auto but It needs an LSD . The Dana 30 locker from the front of a CJ jeep is a cheep diff to throw in it and you can get it to slide alright . It is quite heavy and does not respond well to weight transfer . Mostly only power Ova .

Go S13/S14 . The FC has to many problmes for first timers , active toe , Rotary engines suck . Lots of little things that make it a highly re-active car on the verge of explosion .

um, yes they dooooooooo. seriously don't get a FC. they like to blow up alot. go with the cheaper and easier s13/s14. bullit proof!! i have drifted alot of cars and i felt the least comfortable in the FC. they have no TQ and really sucky gearing if its N/A and if its turbo it'll just blow up. and the diff mounts suck at life and like to break alot. need i go on? you want to be differernt? go buy the Volvo and weld the diff. You can't kill the KA!!!

Any car will give you reliabe service if you take care of it, if you want to know of a car that is way better that the 240sx or the AE86, and has the bulletproof engine, Toyota 1.8L 3TC engine, too bad that those cars are hard to find and if you find one they are always in bad condition.

if they are bulletproof then they shouldnt have problems with finding bad contion ones. who wants a tqless blowing up engine like a rotary!

Why do you guys diss on the rotary? If you take care of them they are ok, if you don't like rotaries fine that is your opinion and I can't change it, but don't go around saying that they suck.

Go to the mazda fourm notice the amount of blown or having to rebuild rotarys. They are well known even if taken care of properly to have many many problems. Sure they are great if you like to rev out to 1 bajillion RPM's and hear funky noises come outta the tail pipe. Its not that I dont like them, its just I would not want one for a daily driver. If one person has an SR and a rotary knowns about both and takes care of both, with simmalar mods I promise the rotary will blow 1st.

How do you know? Have you ever owned one?

Jap
08-20-2004, 04:46 PM
Yes , I have . A 1st gen as well .

After you own it for more than 6 months you'll come crying about how it blew up . Dont be a fag and wanna be different . Go with what works , or you'll never be any good because your car keeps fucking breaking .

dude are you PR? cause your talking about rotaries and 3tc corolla's and the last time i heard soo much of that i was hanging out with my PR friends in Orlando. my first car was a 80 corolla coupe with a 3tc auto with 200k miles on it. i tried to kill it and it just kept on going and going and going and going and going and going, well you get the picture. see the poite is that toyota over build their engine's so that they don't blow up, but rotaries (that are used in a sporting fashion) don't last very long. you can sit there and say rotaries are just as reliable as every other engine, and well its true when it comes to daily driving duties. My pointe was that when you beat on a rotary like i beat on my corolla or my 240 it wouldn't last a month. and i take care of my cars so. Rotaries are good and great at alot of things, but HIGH PERFORMANCE reliability is not one of them. don't be mad, just go buy a toyota.

I have owned mine for more than six months, I just got it painted, I don't drift or race, mine is a daily driven the only thing I have is headers and exaust, before I owned the mazda I had an 94 eclipse, but was a beater 1.8L sohc. I wanted to buy a 240sx or an AE86, but the prices on them were rising, so I went for a mazda RX7 they are FR and sporty, I like drifting, I have Initial D both 1st and 2nd stage, and Freeway Speedway 1 and 4. I always wished to own an AE86, I remenber back in 96, I was PR my mom owned an 85 SR5 red coupe, my dad told me he used to drive it in the interstate at 110mph. I would also like to know were do you guys drift in Tampa, so I could be an spectator. The RX7 is the only thing I have now, and I want to learn how to fix rotaries, the RX7 is a drift car.

If I could find a cheap AE86 in the near future I will buy it, but I would not sell the RX7.

Read bills post above about how it handles. Only one person I have seen drift a FC halfway decent and that is RJ, but he has spent countless hours in SPL spots. However stret drifting is kept to a minium due to cops and whatnot and spectating is not an option if there is street drifting going on.

ill keep this short. stay away from rotaries if you dont know what you are doing. but if you are up to learn about it. then why not

i own one and it takes a lot of attention and money to keep it running right. i guess im one of the lucky ones whose engine hasnt blown yet after numerous times that it was drifted by my friends and I.

Seriously?

I wanna come out to DDay3, I have very little expirence in drifting so far, and at this point I dont feel like doing the illegal kind anymore. The thing that is really killing me is having some cheap tires and rims to go do it and the $75 to acutally do it.

Yeah the cops are getting wise. I remember a certain place that had lots of people all night until about a year ago :(

If you manage to get away with it you should feel good about practice. DOn't bring in other factors like spectators.

I find the best way to not get caught is to not hang out. drift for a few minutes and move on.

Damn that Hachi Bill!!! Now I gotta get rid of my n/a fc. In all seriousness (if a word), the fc aint that bad of a car, but when it comes to reliability... I can't lie!!! They kinda DO suk. My car is a pos. I tried to do the whole different thing, and that shit aint workin. So I will holla at yall later... headed to autotrader. :emo:
