Hey guys I want to build a new box for my car. I cant do what i want anymore with a ported box due to lack of space... Sooooo, I think i am going to go back to a sealed box but i have a quick question. On kickers site the airspace needed says between 1-4.6 cu. ft. here (http://www.kicker.com/ShowPage.cfm?filename=compvrsub.html&menu=SUBWOOFERS)
What is the advantage of a bigger sealed box? I always thought that smaller selaed boxes were better and usually when you dont have a lot of space you go with a sealed box. ... Anyway The system is 2 compvr12's running off an 1800watt amp. Right now they are in about a 4 cu ft. ported box and i think i might get better results going back to selaed . What do u think?

What brand is the amp??
Bigger sealed box= louder but less SQ. Dont go too much you could damage the woofer and it would sound like shit
Smaller=More SQ, but wont get as loud
As for better results what do you mean? Your only going to get better results SQ wise, it wont get as loud

A smaller box generally results in tighter bass, while a larger box allows for more air to be moved...resulting in more excursion and deeper bass notes. Has more to do with frequency than volume/loudness.
the air inside the box acts as a spring, and the smaller the box and tighter the spring. So as you make the box bigger the "spring" will allow the sub more room to play. but too big and the sub will overexcurt itself and can dmamage itself
to small and the "spring" will severly limit the subs travel and will reduce output

ok, so as long as i stay within kickers specs i should be ok then. I should still have loud bass but just more precise and tight instead of boomy sloppy sounding bass from a ported box. thanks
well if youbuild a ported box right it wont be boomy or sloppy... but if you build it wrong it will be.. jus tlike sealed..build too big and its sloppy and boomy, build too small and its tight but muted

I would build a ported box tuned low maybe 28-30hz but do the air space to kicker specs. The box wont be boomy and sloppy if you build it right. Sealed wont get as loud as ported. The good thing about ported boxes is if you build it right, it will sound just as good as sealed, but get louder.

Always stick to the manufactures specs...they put alot of R&D into their products so ofcourse they know what's best.
