How much power can the stock Bottom end hold
Rdline1

on a 7m? maybe 350 safely? i dunno....

more... change the hg, and a few ohter things and you can make some power... over 350 for sure
look at www.7mpower.com ill be making more than 400+ when im done on reworked bottom end, but all stock parts.
*edit*
my setup is similar to this one putting down 500+ hp, when im totaly done ill dyno

i have personally seen a stock 87 7mgte handle over 410rwhp and over 405rwtq. stock motor, just bolt ones. and a 75 shot on top of that.

The stock bottom end will not hold that for long... You better pray to God everytime you boost hard making that much power on the stock bottom.

why pray when I can take it apart every other week :) i have her totaly apart to change some bearings that had the shit beat out of them by the previous owners.
ehhh 1jz soon anyway. but until then this motor will get one good dyno pull.... havent boosted over 7psi since Ive had it, and wont until i feel the time is right.

450ish on stock block isnt hard to do, as long as you make sure your oil pressure is good, and your head gasket is in one piece, youll be fine

no actually its a pretty solid bottom end. tq that hg down good have good oil pressure, and there's nothing to worry about unless your a dumb ass. Hence......no oil pressure, tunning issues, no fuel, ect..you get my drift.

Well, Andy was the first guy around here with a Mk3 1JZ, next thing you know everyone wants to do one!
Dont blame them (me) though. A high revving motor thats more reliable, almost guarenteed less mileage, more durable/stronger, more power, and probably a few extra miles to the gallon, all in a smaller motor. Funny how you'd be losing half a liter of displacement, yet gaining power. Not to mention its close enough to Mk4 2JZ for a LOT less. Except the turbos blow.

Guess you dont know of drjones...I'm not sure he's right at 500rwhp, but he's pretty close and beats the crap our of his car. There are others.......you just need to search for them.
I used to talk to him all the time over the phone and have sold him quite a few parts. So yes, I do know him. ;) Last I heard he was @ 474rwhp I believe. BTW You may be familiar with a website I created and started with Tem, www.supramania.com.

Jonezy races his car at Milan dragway quite frequently and it has not blown up yet. a well maintained and well tuned 7M can handle 450 rwhp day in and day out.
aside from the stock HG, the pistons are the weakest link, plain and simple. there are several people who have made some big power on stock short blocks, sans pistons. the short block that im having the prepwork done right now will hold 800 HP w/o a hitch. stock rods and crank. JE pistons, pins and rings. theres other things going on in there too, but the point is, itll handle more power than most people will bother shooting for.
the 7M is quite a good motor if you get past its nuances and dont shit-can it because you have a short attention span or are a big fan of band wagons. every engine has its short comings, even the 2J... right Mark?

i was the biggest fan of the 7m ever, that is until i got a ride in andy's mk3. i have to say for a bone stock 1j that thing hauled ass! and it still sounded like sex. i know why people hate the 7m; cause their dogs stock and have weakness issues until you take care of them. but once you get a good one the 7m can be a hell of a motor and still sounds better than any 1j/2j open down pipe. the 1j is alot of bang for the buck, but it seams that once you have one your stuck. the stock turbo's are a bottle neck, 7m, all you have to do is have a ct-26 made into a 60-1 for 200 bucks. what do you do for engine managment with the 1j? everything's in japan and exspensive. how much power will the stock ecu let you have?
another thing is getting parts. from working on sr20det's all the time has taught me that everyday things that break need to be replaced, where are you going to get them form? how much stuff from the 2j can you use? i'm asking all this because as soon as i sell my 240 i really want to get back into supra's. i'm going to build a mk3 for drifting cause thats what i'm into. once you get used to the weight a supra drifts just as good as anyother car. i'm going to go get a early 86.5 or 87 n/a hard top and either do a 7mgte or 1j. just tring to get opiions on what motor to use. since i already ahve 7m exsperience thats the way i'm leaning, but i really like the 1j and in a light weight mk3 it would be a blast.
see to get the power out of a 7m i would need for drifting i would have to do some fairly involved mods, but all i would have to do to the 1j would be bolt it in and raise the boost alittle to like 14psi or soo. will the stock turbo's live at that psi? all shit i need to know before i make up my mind.

Bill currently I'm working on a 1j swap, and from my experiences.......I just rather of changed the 7m headgasket. I sure hope it will be worth it when I actually have a running car. The exaust wheels are ceramic..thats why you cannot turn the boost up anymore than 14psi. I'm just going to play with the twins for a few weeks to make sure the cars running right , then I'm just going to put a single on it and try to make some decent power.

08-20-2004, 01:57 PM
1j bill. i dont want to have to talk to you about this again, OK!?!
kelly, take that back.
Bill,
1jz parts are not too hard to get, a few toyota dealers import them to the US. you could easly get 400whp from stock twins.
1. good size fmic
2. 272 cams
3. divorced downpipes
4. safcif you would ever go all out for ecu: stizzzaand alone.
7mturbo clutch works with 1jz, jdm 2jz injectors drop in.

08-20-2004, 02:49 PM
Andy, I really hope here in a few days my car will be running and I can take back all of those negative things. I guess hunting down the bellhousing, flywheel, 3 puck clutch, flywheel bolts, throwout bearing, ext....everything has been a little delay or problem that only caused stress. And it would have been all avoided if I just was able to get a 5 speed clip.
The one site your car is listed at also has like every freaking part number off of a 1jz that you would ever need. From what I have heard as along as you have a part number for the dealer, they should be able to get it for you.

Ooh, maybe soon, im looking for a set of HRE's ive been liking lately :) i think they are the 847, im not sure, but same design as the CCW's and i can have the spokes black with a big deep polished lip :)
youre just dying for these wheels? damn, you got all that crazy stereo, they arent that expensive!!
wait, will the wheels you have on your car now fit a TT? if so, what size are they? MAYBE MAYBE we can work something out..
im not too sure i wanna get rid of them , but ive been thinking about getting something with a black spoke..

Hey mark... if you have one of your old short blocks laying around, LMK, we want one to build up and have waiting in the wings just incase something goes wrong... like... not enough HP. ;) Oh yea, look into some Kinesis rims, they are the sex... i know a guy who has a set of them on his car, black-ish center w/ polished lip...
http://memimage.cardomain.com/member_images/7/web/463000-463999/463369_32_full.jpg
also, running 14psi on the stock 1J twins is pushing it, 13 psi is all i would run on a daily basis. the parallel twins are the shizzle... and the own sequentials easily.
im also hoping to lay ahold of some stock 2J cams for cheap... ive got some ideas :naughty:
punkass andy, i just tried to call you and you had already gone to work... what the hell is that?! you need to be at home when i have a question for you!

The wheels came off of a highly modded TT, so yea :) I do not know the offsets off hand... but the wheels are 18x8.5f and 18x9.5r I believe... rears have 295's on them, I am getting new tires this week... going to see if they can throw on some 305's :D
(a couple of people w/ stock TT wheels fit 315's)
I was actually going to get the same wheels you have from CCW... since I sold my blitz for a little more than what the CCW's go for with tires.. but I held off on it...found out some guy on SF was selling a set with new tires for $2400 and I got to him too late    You can't tell me this doesn't look sexy:

i love the ccw's on black supras  it looks the shit!
oh yeah, and stock parallel twins are ct12a's correct? and the ct12b is whats in the MKIV.. you should pick up a set of these as ive heard they are an easy upgrade... but hey, who gives a shit about twins when you only need 1 turbo anyhow
Orion ZyGarian
08-26-2004, 04:52 PM
Yes, on the 1JZ stock paralell turbos are CT-12A's and are made of ceramic. JDM CT-12B's are too, but whoop de doo.
You cant just swap the CT-12A's for CT-12B's, theres alot involved. Theres a few writeups on SF about it; you'll need to mess with the firewall and custom exhaust and everything IIRC. Better off just going with better turbo(s)
Once/If I get a 1JZ, I plan on upgrading but staying with twins. Because twins > one

agentAndy
08-30-2004, 02:31 AM
Orion; yea bro been a while. hope you get your mk3 and start those "Turbo Dreams". no joke.
Poppa Gargamel and stinky cat friend; if you already have a car and just want the greasy work done when you(or I) get the clip(dont buy a motor set. you need alot of shit from the clip, TRUST ME!) also, you will want a clutch installed when the motor is out. dont want to fire it up and find 1/72137653 parts clutch goodness left. a good clutch is 3-4-500. rps is good and 400. os gikken is way more, so is exeddy, but both ow3n most others. dont even think the stock DP is even get life in the USA. it morphs into soda cans after trash day. the stock radiator failed after 3-4 months use. i highly recomend spending the 400 on a koyo. overheating would suck. the 1jz is strong, but there is no reason to let overheating be an issue IMO. As with all performance engines. you really need to invest about 3k on a clip and then go from there. the harness is the only real "critical" part of the swap. i would think if i was to supply the car around 5-6k. but i would make sure it was worth 5-6k as a sports car. be fast, look good, and go fast.

Another Mk3? Cool. I see you changed your sn, seeing as you sold your 89.
I still have a few weeks, but I know that in a few weeks the divource is guarenteed, and it'll be much faster to getting into our next house!!!*
