my dad decided that he was cool enough to get a "new" 2004 srt4. he autox'es so I think the motorsports bug bit him(i guess he is now a speed freak like me...)- a nice change from the grocery-getting acura TL- but enough babble- what have you guys done to your cars as far as to break them in the first 5-10k or however long it is supposed to be. just tell me how you think it should be done. i may buy this car in a few years, after all:D

so how many miles is considered broken in, and what techniques should i/he use? I have heard about varying speeds and rpm's, but that is about it. any srt-4 pertinent info is much appreciated

thanks

i broke mine in till 1500,i think the manuel suggests 1000 though...congrats on the buy....if your dad plans to auto-x this car first get suspension!!!...then follow with the borla/mopar exhaust,stg1 upgrade, wastegate actuator....that should keep your panties wet for a while  any questions just ask...and congrats on the new buy!

good lookin' out.. im sure to be in the doge forum _forever_ now that he has it... think it is being delivered this week sometime- and definitely went for the black.

quick question skittle- is yours a 2003 and did it come with a lsd(just b/c i figure with that high trap but not so superb time that could be a reason- i dont know)? and also why do i hear people calling these cars skittles?

thanks

so what methods did you use to break it in? my dad wants to know and i have no idea- i have never bought a NEW new car, just new to me, so i dont have too much info on the subject. (respect the pre-loved) i have, however heard little tidbits of info here and there- so could you tell me what you thought was working best? all i know is vary speed and (gears?) dont go WOT

any info is again, much appreciated

thanks

the way you break in a car is to drive it normally. until you hit the 300 miles.

"normal?" thanks- that helps alot

b/c i always drive my car "normal"- for me

heres a tip- if you post dont do it half assed- i AM trying to get some good info here. normal to me means cruize in 5th 14mph over the speed limit. so i do this constantly till it passes 300? i dont think so

dude, just check the owners manual man...its in there. I know its 500 miles. I KNOW it said to do WOT bursts, but not high rpm pulls.

Long story short, a buddy of mine beat on his since day 1. Its perfect. 0 problems.
I broke mine in on a trip back from Coconut Creek when I bought it. by the time I got up here, I had experienced 130.:o

Go by the book if you are really concerned.

the only reason that i am so paranoid is that i have heard horror stories about the rx8 (different in every sense of the word) and how it has to be babied during the break in period or else severe loss of power. hearing that, i want to make sure this car can easily go 100k still at 100%(or close to), because i will ~99% be the person to buy this exact car down the road. its basically what i wish my dsm was- can haul 4 ppl, has lsd (oh yeah and the srt4 is much faster)

and thanks for the manual bs- ill get on that- if i knew there were "directions" in the om then i would probubly not have posted this in the first place- but thanks for the help ne ways guys and bringing that to my attention- much love for this dodge forum in which i have never really been- you guys are ok by me

Definitely nothign to worry about in the power department. At 2K miles these suckas wake up.

I have seen WHP from the low 200s to 250 stock. All about what dyno you go to. It aint no rx8 in the looks department, but hey, rx8s only get to see the exhaust....haha

yeah grassroots (mag) started a project srt-4 to run auto-x in. i think it was the june issue but i just saw the article this week. they had the dyno sheet and it really started to hit at about 2200-2500- nothing but power from there on. and it pulled 230whp- not bad for being rated at (230?) from the factory
