Harlans second trip to the track netted the folowing:

This is a 346 ci motor with a stock aluminum LS1 block and stock crank. The rest is forged and solid roller I believe, two medium turbos.
He has alot more in it thats for sure. that 1/8 mphis crazy. 60 foot needs help but im sure he will get all that down.

I would settle for having my cam swapped and some N2O. Turbos are in a whole different price galaxy for those of us on a tight budget.

Did you guys see the other carin the Vid? I absolutely LOVE that perspective. Car is just shot out of a cannon. The other car was Dan Millens race car. Apparently he was doing some T&T with a small turbo and ran like a 7.80 at 180+. How would you like to be lined up with that?
Harlans car is damn impressive. I am very happy with the fact that it is using the stock crank since I am using the stock crank as well on my build up.

Al when you say a stock crank,it's forged right? And the aluminum block,it's sleeved right?Very nice though, and if I was lined up Millen,I would just love to watch how fast he pulled away!!lol

Actually no...what I mean is both peices are stock not aftermarket. Just like you find in any run of the mill Z28. Its just a production LS1 crank. It is a forging but not the same process as say a Lunati or Callies forged crank. Those would be stronger. And the block is just a production LS1 block with factory sleeves, just like any other Z28.

Actually..after digging some more. It was a stock LS6 block, stock crank and stock main caps as well. Stock 6.0 head castings too.
Pretty damn strong..even I am amazed he didnt use billet main caps.
My stock 6.0 crank in my car is even a tad stronger since its from the trucks. It is a solid piece where as the LS1 is gun drilled down the center and hollow. Mine is 1.7 lbs heavier but should be stiffer. Not bad for a $350 piece.

What good are the billit main caps? Ive always thought that was like snake oil since we have a 6 bolt bottom end anyways and the stock caps are steel, i believe. The truck crank is a NICE piece. Im running one also incase I get ansy for the N2O again ;)
Harlen has one AWESOME setup! Its badass that he built it all right down to the turbo headers which are a work of art! :)

I agree Carl. I dont think the billet caps are snake oil but I do think they arent necessary for most... I retained my stock caps. I think they are just fine as well. Atleast until proven otherwise. Especially since I have an iron block with the same deep side skirts on the sides where the cross bolts go. I bet that can hold a ton of HP.
Its just that most high HP cars opt for those billet caps. I bet Harlan will drop a few more tenths. Then we will see how long the hard parts hold up. This will be a good test bed for stock parts. I for one am glad he went this route just for R&D knowledge.

Oh yeah! He proved what stock parts are capable of and most of us dont have to worry about the stock block, crank, caps, etc....
Im still curious of what benifits the billet main caps have? Maybe dead weight, but I dunno. Its like the LS1 main girdle I seen on ebay....... Didnt see the purpose for one of those either :?

Well..at high HP all those components do actually move. They flex and sway and stretch. The forces can be astronomical. The worst possible scenario would be a block failure or so much movement that the crank broke. But most of the time I think the advantages are more for bearing longevity. the stronger and more stable those pieces are the longer everything will last due to maintaining good oil/bearing clearences.
The stock crank is a nodular iron crank and I believe the main caps are nodular iron as well. Both very strong.
Thats why a diesel has huge mains and cranks and run forever.

Well if it was a ford turbo it would be better, now Scott does not have to run his CC becuase I got it out of the way for him!

Very sweet,I got to hand it to GM,Ford parts would never hold up to that kind of power, but the newer 4v shit is strong.Thank god for aftermarket!!LOL

The new Ford 4v blocks and cranks are about the same I believe. 6 bolt mains with deep side skirts. I think the cranks are even the same material, nodular iron. Its just amazing what they are making these days.
I am also interested in the new Nissan Titan v8 that is 5.6 liters and 4V heads. That motor may be one to look out for. Nissan needs to put it in a some cars.

That is a bad motor, but you won't catch Nissan doing no shit like putting it in to a car.Hey!Nice swap idea Al,a twin turbo 5.6 Titan motor in a 78 Corolla...LOL
