View Full Version : 97 C5's ?
i heard there was some reason to stay away from the first year. other than it was just the first year. seems like i remember something about the rear ends or half shaft's getting up graded. but not sure of the year.
does anyone know if this is true?

It may be something with the oil pumps of that year, I know it was the oil pumps 98 Camaro's that I would stay away from.

will is right, the oil pump in the 97/98/99 Y and 98/99 F seem to just go when they want. ask DSG, he went through it with his car. i dont see why a fuel pressure safety switch couldnt be rigged for the oil system...like under 10psi, it shuts off to save the motor...who knows, maybe its more work then i think.
as for 97's gettin cheap, i saw one a few months ago for like 18.5K

When modding a LS1 base motor you want to upgrade the oil pump PERIOD. Very rarely unmodded LS1 based motors have an issue with oil pumps. Actually I have not heard of anyone with a stock engine and no internal mods having a oil pump issue. Just get a ported one from a good source and you will be fine. The only other issue I have heard of with C5's are electrical issues and that depends on if you have a A4 or manual.
