You should be! Only 1 scoob holding down the fort! I had fun watching. I'll be there to drive in August for sure.

Oh, come on now, I can't remember the last time we ran a SunRiders autocross with less than 6 runs. 7-8 shouldn't be much of a surprise. We're all about fun! As long as we get started on time (we sorta did), have a course that supports two cars on course and a good start interval (we did), we go for as many runs as we can.

Even with most of the second run group being timed by stopwatch (with a lot of reruns as a result), we still got 51 cars through about 8 runs each in less than 6 hours. (we got the first car out at 10:45, and were done by 4:30)

BTW, Kenny Canniff and company came up with a new staging format that worked really well. Rather than the two-lane crawl that we've been doing, we had a grid set up that allowed everyone to park and stay put until it was time for them to run again. I didn't think we had enough room to do it, but we did and it was cool!

I always knew Kenny was good for something:)

Congrats to Vince on his first course too. Danny commented in the parking lot after the event on how good the course was. Said it was like a nationals course, just scaled down. Nice Job!

Oh, by the way, who's Tod Byrom? I never gave him permission to beat me;)

Ha, too bad it was Matt in my car that ran the 40.

At least I got better from 48 to 43.1! I'm definitely gonna be driving at the next one. So much fun!!!! That track was designed wonderfully. I loved it. :-D

Oh yeah. It's weird, because I could've sworn there was a guy driving the Audi TT and the Golf R32, but the vehicles are under women's names???

Anyhow, more girls from TR should've came out! I'll definitely be at the next one.

If I'm not mistaken, both of those cars had two drivers. The drivers might not have been in the same class. Look closely.

You're progressing really well, Regina. It takes time to learn the finer points of car control, and autocross has the added element of learning to "read" the course. But, like I was telling Matt, it's easier to teach a driver to go faster than it is to get one to slow down. You're not overdriving, you're creeping up on the limits of the car and that's good. Just keep pushing the envelope... and having fun.

Regina

Oh ok, got ya on the drivers. That's cool!

Yes, I definitely found some limits Saturday. I'm going to continue pushing that darn envelope until I've found the edge.

SO MUCH FUN!!!

I'm really glad to hear that you're having so much fun. Towards the end of your runs, I was starting to wonder. It was clear that you were making progress, but you were so heat-drained that you really didn't look like you were having fun when you got out of the car!

Brian

Tod Byram was a regular in CFR events in the mid/late 80's.

Danny Shields ran an 85 Mustang 5.0 during that time, and Tod also ran a Mustang. Tod got to be quite a good driver in trying to beat Danny.

Haven't seen Tod's name is years, it is good to see him back.

Thanks Loren and Brian; Howard Sharf was the master-mind behind the grid set up ... we worked together with Paul for about an hour to come up with the final set up ... the result was a nice smooth grid all day ....
I like this much better then the creep-n-crawl grid ... :D

Yeah, the family hauler didn't look halfbad out there but I still won the $1 ;) , too bad you probably used $30 worth of rubber off of my loaner tires

FYI to all .... Sunday August 22nd is the next event at SPJC...

Cool photo, Kenny! (I'd edit out the umbrella behind the car, though) If you or anyone else has more good pix, be sure to upload them to the SunRiders Autocross (http://www.sunridersautocross.com) website. The webmaster has revamped the photo gallery so that you can upload 5 pix at a time instead of separately. If we get anough pix out there, he's working on a rotating slideshow gizmo for the front page.

Tod Byram has been out to a few of our events. Not sure if I've met him or not, I'm terrible with names. But I know his name's been in the results.

You looked great out there, Angela!

Loren, I know I must've looked so terrible. ;) Hahaha. I was really having fun regardless of how sweaty and drained I looked. I promise. Hahaha. :-D

I knew the Saturn didn't have street tires!!! It looked amazing though!

Everyone drove really well. It seemed like mostly everyone improved by the end. :)

Just one of those things that we always knewwas a good idea, but never had time to implement. All of our "regulars" are busing setting up course, doing registration and tech, etc. Having a couple motivated people willing to take the time to just do it was great!

Now we know how we can set it up in the future.

Thanx Regina...you did too! It was fun and now I am ready to get more serious about learning.

Loren

For those who are interested in learning...

Aside from the basic car control, smoothness, and looking ahead type of stuff, you can really help yourself a lot by learning to read a course. That doesn't mean just letting the cones tell you where to go without getting lost. That means picking the correct, most efficient and smooth line through the course. Quite often, the cones don't give you any clue as to what the correct line is.

This course was a good example of that. Even Danny Shield's commented on how it was like a Solo II Nationals course, only scaled down. Why is that? Because the course designer (a first time course designer, btw) studied a National-level course design guide and had the help of myself and Brian Hollands in honing his design.

What's this got to do with you? Well, you can download that same course design guide, read it and get inside the course designer's head!

Here it is, give it a look:
http://home.houston.rr.com/rogerthereal/

You'll find several "tricks" used on this weekend's course mentioned in that guide. Understanding how and why the course designer did what he did can help you to determine the best line, or at least avoid being suckered into the wrong line.

Hint: The fast line around this course was mostly very wide. Cutting in tight on the "apex" cones was almost always a bad decision on this course.

Now go. Study. Become wise. Come back and kick some butt.

Regina

I'm definitely going to read that, Loren. Thanks!!

Damn, I should have come back from FSU this weekend, Oh well sounds like you all had fun. It would have been a great chance to test out my new suspension  Hehe, I guess I will just have to wait until the august one to see how she performes.

Chris, is there a way to correct that?

Nope.:( even if i do the RSX type S swap(K20a2), the electric stearing must stay, mostly because of the ECU, and the way the stearing columb is set up.

Yup! And this was an excellent course for learning about how you have to slow down to go faster. My fastest runs were the better part of 2 seconds faster than my slowest. They didn't feel any faster though. It was just a case of slowing down to take a faster line. A good learning experiance for me for sure!. The two decreasing radius left handers were great for proving where the fast line really was. If you were paying attention, you saw the fast guys taking very late apexes (especially in the second of the two decreasing lefts) slowly enough not to encounter any more than mild understeer.

argh....I had to miss this one too, been sick all week and standing out in the sun all day (or standing out in the rain all day) did not sound a very healthy thing to do :(

I still haven't tested out my new springs in an autox course with the exception of two wet runs on street tires in brooksville and another on hoosiers in a monsoon.....car felt good, but I didn't get much of a chance to test the limits.

This is somewhat off topic, but any chance of doing a mini-prix type thing or other kinds of special events at Allstate in the months when Primus events were scheduled? It doesn't look like the track is going to be available for awhile from what I hear

No, SPC is booked solid for the rest of the season.

We're still trying to come up with something.
