cooling fans

got a quick quesiton. after looking at my amp rack i figure im missing something. something to keep the amps cool. before i cut out the holes for the amps i wanna measure in space for cooling fans. my buddies got a few light up ones to make it look cooler but im not sure on how they work. how do cooling fans work, do i need more then one , one to blow out heat and one to bring in cool air? also do i just cut the wire that comes out of the fan and split it and connect it to the battery? little help guys, thanks and peace.

How many you get is all a matter of preference...the general idea is to circulate air around your amp. I'd base my decision on just how hot the amps get. If your amps aren't getting hot to the touch (not warm) then I personally wouldn't even waste the time or money on it. As far as powering it goes, I'd wire it up to the amp's remote turn-on, this way it automatically turns on anytime your amp does.

Maybe I'm just overly cautious, but I always wired mine up using a SPST relay utlizing the remote turn on for the trigger. I know the small cooling fans don't draw THAT much current, but the remote turn on circuit wasn't intended to supply current to accesories. Besides, relays are cheap and easy to wire up.

I definetly agree with John in that if you have adequate airflow around the amps and they aren't overheating, you don't really need to bother.

I had cooling fans on my old setup. Hooked em up to a relay from my h/u. I had 2 fans blowing in, 2 fans blowing out. I have 4 light up fans that light up green if u wanan buy them cheap. I bought em off ebay and I was going to use them on my current setup but I finished it today and didnt end up using the fans.

damn wish it wasnt green, wish it was red or blue. is there a way to change the light? but how much for only 2 of em?

bro its really really cheap. go on ebay and go under the computer section and search for "Blue Fan"

I got 4 for 16$ shipped. Try n get atlest the 80mm fans. And make sure they run off DC but im pretty shure all computer fans are dc neways

yeh i just looked on ebay, there like .99cents!! thats incredible, stores sell em for like 10-15$. maybe ill order some and just send a money order on like pennies and dimes to make em mad. :)
