First things first, I'd just like to establish one thing with my audience: my system is maddddd tyte. My shit bumpin' pulls all the bitchiz to mah ho wagon.

Now that that's out of the way, I've got a smidgeon of audio inquisition. I'm currently bumpin' from a 64mb MP3 player strapped to my handbrake running to a conversion tape in my stock '90 Honda Accord tape deck, hooked up to the stock dual front speakers (both blown). It seems to me that when I turn the volume down on the MP3 player and up on the tape deck, it gives more clarity at the same volume than if I turn the MP3 player up and the tape deck down.
Now, I'm obviously a wizard of audio engineering, but even I am stumped as to wuzzup wit dat.
Can anyone offer me an explanation?

Stop avoiding the question. Does it make sense or not?

most aduio devices only run to x volume, till the start to distort.. the internal amp in the mp3 player is only meant to be pusihg the small earphones which only require nominal power.

so when you turn the volume up on the mp3 player, it will distort, because youre trying to get more out of it than it can produce safley. and since its prducing a cleaner signal to teh tape deck, the tape deck, which will be louder than the mp3 player, wont distort easier. But if you crank the tape deck it will.. lemme know if this makes sense

I would guess that it has something to do with the fact that most tapes are recorded at a relatively lower level. And the gains on internal amp in the head unit is set accomodate a signal that has that sort of input voltage. So when you turn up the output on MP3 player up and send it through the tape player it's recieving alot more powerful signal than normal thus causing the head unit's amp to clip.

Of couse this is just my hypothesis...
