Here's the course map.

FYI, we're doing a sort of "school" in conjunction with this event. It's mainly an effort to get some of the more timid non-autocrossing SunRiders Miata Club folks out to play, and I'm trying to limit it to club members only since there are only 10 slots available. I haven't been pushing it much because I've been having trouble rounding up enough instructors.

If you'd like to be an instructor for this event, let me know!

If you're a member (motorsports membership is sufficient) and you'd like to be a student, let me know that, too. The school will cost you $50 and gets you unlimited runs with an instructor and no work assignment for the day.

For those who aren't doing the school, it will pretty much be "business as usual".

Oh, and we're having Vietnamese food brought in for lunch.

Moving to new place on that day. Oh well, the car's beaten suspension components welcome the rest. :D

Will be out there for sure. Looks like a real challenging course and can't wait for vietnamese food. It'll be like eating at home!

The course looks fun. I'd like to see the Impala SS run that skid pad segement. It'd probably be so much fun he'd do a few laps... Damn Saturday events. I'll be pretending I like Z's (crossed over to the dark side - selling Nissans).

Chin

Ahaha no pretending

They're going faster than I'm getting instructors to teach them.

+1

Hopefully it will be in action, we need some more muscle out there;) I see no slalom so I'm leaning toward running the Typhoon again.

Nope not yet - only my 2nd Sebring... Gotta say though - coming out of turn 17 about 100 mph and doing a four wheel drift under the bridge is quite addicting... YEE HAW :smirk:

the course looks rather interesting. it also looks like a good opportunity for some skidpad testing after everyone gets their runs in. 66' radius may result in less consistent skidpad numbers though.

Loren

FWIW, the 66' radius is what we used at our school/test & tune last year. That's a 66' "inside" radius. Add another 2 feet for the cones and chalk line, another foot or so for driver innacuracy, and that puts the centerline of the average car at pretty close to 75 feet, which is what we based our calculations on. It worked out to be pretty accurate for those who kept a tightish line. But there were only 2 or 3 of us that did, everyone else either went 3-4 feet or more from the cones or was just inconsistent. I pulled .86 G's on street tires, which seems about right for that surface. Jeremy (w0rd) pulled .85 on Azenis, and Billy Young pulled .81. Everyone else was under .80.

BUT... I wouldn't count on a great deal of time being available after this event unless the attendance turns out to be low. And it might, with the PCA guys doing Sebring and the Neon guys doing dyno testing, we've lose a few right there.

This skidpad is probably not going to be flat, either. As close as one side of it is to the drain grate, it won't be even enough to give consistent results. But it will be good enough to give a driver some feedback on their car's steady-state cornering tendencies and their ability to control it... which is what I was after.

i'm confused. do you need to be a sunriders member to go to this? is it an autocross or drivers school? seems like both are listed.

if it's open to non members i'm thinking i'll attend.

It is a regular SunRiders autocross first, and a limited autocross school second. The "school" is limited to 10 students and is currently filled.

It's not two separate events, all will be happening at the same time in the same place. (laws of physics be damned)

So, come on out!
