Yes. Same goes for any other minors who wish to participate. You'll either need to bring a parent with you to the track, or grab a waiver form at the event prior to have them sign. Driver requirements are same as for our autocrosses, you must be a fully licensed driver.

Edit: FYI, the autox is May 8th. If you show up on the 9th, there will probably be a motorcycle class going on.

Noooooo. As long as the events are insured as "driving schools", no timing is permitted.

And our insurance company is a pain. To do anything beyond what they call an "entry level driving school", EVERY car has to have a roll bar. So, unless we find other insurance (which we may), we're stuck with the drivers school format. No competition and no times.

Sorry, man... that's where we're at right now.

That's cool...it's just as fun without it!
Are the same instructors attending? They were great last time!

We should have many of the same instructors, and others of at least the same level.

Will you send out an email to the instructors seperately? I'd like to volunteer to be part of the instructing/organizing/staging committee if needed.

Nah, that would make too much sense!

I dropped a note on the SunRiders Autocross list a while ago, here's what I said:
Just a quick note to our instructors. If you were an instructor during the first Primus event, you are invited to be an instructor at this event. We'll only need 7 instructors, so let me know if you want to be one. If I have to pick and choose, I'll pick the most experienced instructors first. (the rest of you will just have to drive... how sad for you!)

There ya go!

FYI, you're one of the better instructors. Plenty of experience, good at instructing and gave good feedback to the drivers during and after the event. If you would like to instruct again, we'd love to have you.

speaking of emails, did you ever come to your senses about sending out driving evaluations from the last event or is that something you still plan to do?

Did that a long, long time ago. If you didn't get yours, it probably means I couldn't read your email address on the form. There were several that I had to guess at. I don't remember yours bouncing, though.

Send me an email and I'll reply with the relevant info.

No, that's not what I said at all. *IF* we stay with our present insurance company and want to progress beyond "drivers school" events, THEN every car will be required to have a roll bar.

Read the event info packet. All of the actual requirements for this event are in there.

Waste not / want not... or something like that.

Speaking of food, no promises, but it sounds like Ferman MINI (our new sponsor) is trying to arrange to bring lunch out to the track for us. Cool, huh?

Well thank you Loren. I had some good students and the track really rewarded those that drove a good line. I'd be interested in doing it again - will be going back to back again?

Nah. Check out the schedule in the packet. Instructors should be only working or driving every OTHER session. With the advanced and intermediate groups not really requiring instructors, the schedule uses them in-between the instructed beginner sessions.

Yes I did, thanks...I usually only check that email address once or twice a week, so when I do I've got like 50 spam messages, so I blow through and delete everything that doesn't catch my attention....the original email probably got lost in the noise (I think I would've recognized "Loren" pretty quick though)

can you say how many slots are still available? I got a drift event or two to pay for in addition to new wheels/tires/hubs/spindles :)

Arrgggh...I'll get it out today or tomorrow.

Come on folks, sign up while you can. If you think auto-x is a blast, wait till you give this a try. It's no Sebring but it's the closest thing you'll find for ~$70 and a half hour's drive or so.

We aim for 7 cars per session. Works pretty well.

Slow-ass cars are fine, as are slow-ass drivers. All we ask is that you be safe and if you're holding up a faster car/driver, allow them to safely pass when appropriate. Beginners will have instructors riding along to keep them out of trouble and help them learn the track.

Forgot who said it - but it was something along the lines of "It's more fun to drive a slow car fast than a fast car slow".

and

"the most cost effective car upgrade is always to the nut behind the wheel"

both apply 100% to the Primus Track Event.

well....It seems that I'll be picking up a 2004 Camry 4cyl 5spd very soon. I already planned on autocrossing it, so this might be fun too.

BTW: What classifies you as a beginner? I have Auto-x'd too many times to count (although only once in the past 1.5 years due to not having a car). I have also auto-x'd with sunriders about 3-4 times.

4-cylinder Camry... slow, but reliable!

We start just about everyone out in the Beginner group just to feel them out and see what level they're at, make sure they grasp the "not an autocross, can't drive at 11/10" concept, and get them comfortable with the track. The only exception we might make to that might be for someone with lots of actual track driving experience.

Your autox experience gets you in the door. Without that, or some other racing experience, we probably wouldn't even consider you for the Beginner's group!

All you have to do "online" is find the info packet and print it. Here's a direct link (http://sunridersautocross.com/PDFs/PrimusSchoolInfo.pdf) to the info packet. (it is a PDF document, you'll need Adobe Acrobat reader to open it) READ IT and you will find that unless your 240 is a convertible, you don't need a roll bar or a cage. No payments are being accepted via the net, it's all done by mail. You can bring it to me if you want, or come by the house and I'll print a copy of the packet for you.

BUT... while this is an "entry level" track driving school, it does have the prerequisite that you have some competition driving experience. This is not the place to learn basic car control. As a minimum, we like entrants to have 4-6 autocrosses or similar experience.

If you fit that bill, send me your entry form, or let me know what I can do to help.

if you're having this hard of a time just figuring out the cost and how to register, you probably shouldn't be out there anyways.....no one wants to die.

As for me, I'd love to go out there...but with the brand new car, I'm very unfamiliar with the way it handles on stock suspension and stock crap ass tires, so I don't know how comfortable I'd feel.

I know it's hard... but let's try not to be internet snobs. Not everyone is computer literate... and that doesn't mean they can't drive.

Bring it on. I know you've got some experience. The car on stock tires might not be the fastest thing around the track, but it should be predictable and you can learn a good line around the track. It'll be fun.

Leslie - street tires are great to learn - I use streets on my car - they scream pretty loud before they let go - which is what you want when you are learning. and you have to start somewhere.

what kind of cancellation/refund policy do you have? My car is way unprepared for primus right now, and I have this weekend to get the rear 5-lug swap finished that I ran into problems with last week.

I'm not really 100% sure it'll get done this weekend, which means I'll have super oversteer drift traction bias...I would much rather practice driving the real way at primus instead of trying to keep oversteer in check all day.

Rather than having to deal with refunds or the possibility of turning someone else away due to you holding a position (which doesn't seem all that likely right now, but who knows?), I'd rather you just blow the deadline. Contact me as soon as you know your car is ready and I can get you on the list if it's not full and you can pay at the event.
