Cliffnotes: Will I be able to hook up a hu, speakers, tweeters, subwoofer in a fiberglass spaceship enclosure without actually having all of these in a car. Meaning can I put a battery in there and have the system work?

I was wondering if I could get a whole system, hu, speakers, sub, tweeters and everything out of a car at the junkyard and wire it up to a battery so it could work by itself without a car?

I know it sounds really stupid to do this and my posts have been strange in general but this has all been for a project I've been working on for a competition. I have to build a spaceship so I decided to build it out of fiberglass. Later I decided to incorporate the 8 dollar subs shown in my previous post and use the spaceship as a sub enclosure.

The first online store was sold out of the subs so I decided to do another search on froogle for the same sub. I found an 8 inch “thump!” sub for 6.50 so I decided to purchase it. Yet another email sent saying this store is out of stock. I have one week left to build this spaceship before competition and so far I have rough sketches, a cardboard model of the frame, and fiberglass, fiberglass resin, acetone, brushes.

This is pretty much my last option and probably the best idea I've had thus far. I am going out to the junkyard and I am taking a system out of a car, preferrably a car with the premier package from factory so it will have a sub and some decent speakers. I wanted to incorporate this system into the spaceship so it could play solo without any car connection.

A couple things I have thought about while planning this are that the battery will die out because it cannot recharge. This is ok because it will only be used once for about 10 minutes during the competition. Wiring for the hu is a connector with a bunch of wires going out back and I have no clue where these go so I don’t know if I could wire them anywhere on the spaceship.

If anyone can help me I’d really appreciate it, I know this post is very long and I’m sorry about that but I needed to get all the information out in the open so I can try to get this thing started quick. Thank you to anyone who even takes the time to read this poorly put together pile of bullshit.

:D Good Idea, thank you

The other part is what I'm more worried about. Battery situation isn't that big of a deal but if you know if I can set this up somehow please respond. Do you know if that bundle of hu wires is just a bunch of grounds and the negative positive terminal wires or is there something else I need to get from the car to set this up?

the harness fomr the HU shoudl work, if its aftermarket the wires will be easy, if its factory youre going to need a wiring diagram.

and a lot of facotry premium jobs have other amps elsewhere int eh car which become a pain to use.. youre better off just goint to walmart and pick up some road gear or whatever

yeah, go pick up a cheap head unit somewhere, or online, or at least a factory head unit that has the amp included, not somewhere else. If you do this, places like AVE Audio near me can give u a print out of the factory wiring colors and how the match up to aftermarket wiring colors. there is basically 3 wires u need to know--yellow is power, red is ignition, and black is ground. ignition you can hook up the same way as you do power, to whatever battery you use, so the head unit will always have power this way. The rest are + and - speaker wire connections. It shouldnt be too hard.

got pics? sry i cant very well envision a spaceship type system

I found a connection at a pawn shop so I'll be able to get an aftermarket hu and amp instead of having to go through the hassle of finding and pulling an amp from a factory system.

I have to redraw my plans to fit this system instead of 4 subs so I'll post those up tomorrow. I have a cardboard model of the frame that I can take a picture, I'll borrow a digital camera and get a picture of that as soon as I can as well as pictures of whatever hu, speakers, tweeters, etc I end up getting.

I know it's hard to imagine and it actually took awhile brainstorming to come up with this but now it's finally time to get this done so I guess I have to do it. Thanks for your help.

Actually yellow is your switched/ignition and red is your constant power....

no, grey/black is your 12 volt, green solid is your ignition, and red is your ground.
