I'd like to put some noise dampening material in the trunk area of my 1995 Grand Prix and heard about Dynomat. Anybody know anything about this stuff and know where I can get it? Do any of you know approximately how much it costs?
:D

theres some people who buy the cheaper stuff from home depot, i got one made by stinger. i forget how much i paid, but if u dont get the home depot stuff or whatever, get it online and get like a 2 inch wallpaper rolling pin kinda thing. its pretty easy just kinda a lotta work taking all the panels off. it is worth it tho, cuz like for rear-facing subs, the sound will resonate all through the trunk...i replaced my subs at the same time i did the dynomat so i couldnt tell if the difference was the subs or dynomat, but ive heard other cars and it does help.

good luck, im sure some other ppl (Afboy143) can provide links to the cheaper stuff cuz i think thats what he used

If your trunk is rattling, don't bother with dynamat. It's not gonna do a whole lot. IMO, dynamat is most effective in eliminating road noise and keeping your music "inside". Rattles are something you usually just have to learn to live with unless you're willing to fill your doors with cement and weld your trunk shut.

kpr10is and TBSpyder thanks for the tips.
I'm planning on using it to reduce exhaust and road noise.

no ur wrong.

I silenced my whole back hatch and it helped a shit load. I know people with trunks who put 2-3 layers in the trunk and it finally stopped. U jus cant use 1 layer and expect miracles.

its called like Pull N seal or some bs. Its for like roofing. Its really thin tho so ur gonna have to use twice the amount u would usually use.Its 15$ for a big ass roll so if u gotta lotta time and ur cheap get it. If u dont wanna use it search ebay for brown bread which is really cheap or secondskinaudio.com. I hear u get 40% off second skin audio deadner if u are a memeber of caraudio.com forums.

I've used dynacrap and the like on a quite a few cars, IMO, it's not worth it as a cure for "rattles". It usually does little to nothing and new rattles just form after a period of time anyways. When you're talking about a trunk lid, it's really going to do nothing...being it's the lid itself that's vibrating. The only solution is to isolate the rattle or tighten whatever it is. Even still, new rattles will form. I guarantee it. And if they don't...you're subs are weak.

Maybe if i get a 15" audiobahn my subs wont b weak rite?

And just because my subs are "weak" doesnt mean I dont like them. Yeah bash them all u want bla bla Im not into dirty bass, i like my bass clean and my subs do a good job doing that. And for ur info im in the process of upgrading my system as we speak. Im picking up my new speakers tomarrow. Maybe then I wont b so weak and ill b up to par wit ur shit

Actually I wasn't referring to you personally. Just subs in general...any decent amount of bass is going to cause rattles here and there over time. And I wouldn't consider my system anything special...it gets the job done and that's about it. Didn't really wanna go in excess considering it's a convertible and I planned on the shit being stolen a loooong time ago....knock on wood.

Dynamat or whatever other dynamat-like substance you use adds weight to the particular panel you apply it to therefore reduce it's resonance. If you apply enough of it will stop rattles. And it does reduce some road noise.

But if all you want to do is lower the exhaust and road noise there are much cheaper and easier ways to do so. The cheapest and probably on of the most effective ways to do this would be to go to a carpet store and ask for their remnant scraps of carpet padding. Put it wherever you feel you need to reduce noise the most :)

i still have rattles on the outside and inside of the blazer... of course oustide is the weird plastic trim, inside is the overhead console

Every car I've heard with dynamat still rattled. The majority of rattles are in places you could probably never even reach, let alone find. There's just too many parts to a vehicle for you to isolate every vibration and rattle.

you need more then dynomat there are about 4major rattles and your gasTank is always numberOne.licensplate is number2,trunk/hatch lock, then yourbumper support or taillights is another fix those and you will be happy then dynomat what i have done to some car((that have money))dynomate then go over your dyno mat with aerosal dynomat to get it all but it takes alot of time to remove everything

Thanks guys for the info.
What I want to apply the sound damping material to is mostly for the exhaust noise.
I'm just trying to find an inexpensive way to do it.
I just installed Flowmaster DF 40 series mufflers on my GTP and It sounds great. The rumble of the V6 is awesome.
I can definitely hear it when I'm accelerating and all I'd like to do is tone down the exhaust noise on the inside.
Carpet padding is worth try, I'll check it out. And if it doesn't do the job, then I'll try the other material (i.e. secondskin, Dynamat, Dynomat)
Any input is greatly appreciated.

Peace!
