ok guys i have a couple neons i have been lookin at since i am in the market for a new car--i have found a 98 ACR white with blue stripes..63k miles..for $4000 seems to be in good shape...and a 98 R/T blue with silver stripes also in good shape. 55k miles for $4900 i would like to see any opinions on both these cars--both on a reliability and performance standpoint...as far as performance what are the best mopds/brands..and some numbers...as for reliability any problems---is the 98 a good year--gas mileage etc...thanks for any help

the RT and ACR are going to offer the same in reliabilty, the ACR will be a bit faster if both are stock(dohc). The ACR is stripped no power windows or doors. and lighter. ACR has konis and stiffer suspention. IF you want to go fast the ACR is you choice if you want to be a little be more comfy the RT is better. check to see if the head gasket has been done. that is the major weak point in them.

ACR's didnt come with stripes so be sure to get the VIN and double check. White/blue was made only for RTs and there were a few Celebrity Challenge Neon ACR's that were made to look like RTs...so do a lil homework, if the ACR turns out to be a celebrity challenge car...it gets my vote

I thought that the ACR didnt come with A/C, power windows, power mirrors, but it did have a lower 5th gear ratio. I remember my 98 R/T didnt have the ACR tranny, but with A/C and power goodies. Am I wrong??

my 96 acr has ac it was an option.the power stuff was not an option on the acr. the lower (.081) 5th gear came in all acr's and at somepoint i think they changed the 5th gear in the rts from the(.081)to the(.072) one. i got a tranny out of a 98RT and it has the (.081) 5th gear. if you do alot of highway driving the acr tranny sucks 75mph 4000rpm

So basically I was right. hehe!! It was hard to remember what the ACR had. I remember I swap my tranny for a ACR cause I was into drag racing. But one thing I hate about those tranny and the R/T tranny, is the bell housing would crack all the time. I had went through 4 tranny cause of this. hehe!!! Now they have aftermarket tranny to hold the power. But that after I sold my R/T. Ohh well, I'm happy with SRT-4 tranny.:)
