Which one would you go with? I am going to put 4 in my trunk. I can get the Type R's for around 120 a sub, and the Type S's for around 95 a sub, what would you reccomend?

Why?

More durable, looks so much better, basicly the same as the R, and they are cheaper

I was going to upgrade my type E's that i currently have to R's so I did my homework. Come to find out Type R's are known for their cones to seperate from the surround. Then i went up to CC and asked their opinion and they said the same thing, customers always come back saying the surround came unglued from the cone. So i was like damn. So I came back home and did some more homework. Found out S's are basicly the same as the R's but much more durable. Plus i love the way the new aluminum ones look. So i think thats the route im going when i get enuf money for a new amp and subs. Also where u gettin them, ebay?

I vote neither. You could pick up a single 12 or 15 of a different brand and blow all 4 of those out of the water, plus not have to worry about multiple amps and a massive enclosure....

No offense, but I wouldn't consider Alpine speakers SQ or SPL...they're more of an affordable everyday speaker for your average joe. Same goes for most any of the brands that offer such a wide array of audio equipment (Sony, Panasonic, Pioneer, Kenwood, ect.).

I bed to differ. I think Alpine subs are geared more towards the SQ range. Sony, panasonic, pioneer, kenwood are all shitty when it comes to subs. ive heard them all besides panasonic subs and didnt like them. I would say alpine falls into the same catagory as kicker (not the l7s) Geared more towards sq but still can get loud

I didn't mean all the brands I listed where on the same level...just that they would all fall into the same target consumer market category. Hence why the vast majority of their sales are through major chain stores. Their average customer is the kid who buys a prefab box, 2 12's, amp and has it installed. They're marketed towards those who are looking for "aftermarket"...something that sounds better than stock and that's about it. That's why they're such large company and so mainstream as well, they're not focusing on one niche.

I agree with you somewhat John, but I like the way they sound granted there are plent of speakers that sound better, and plenty of speakers that sound worse. I am a big alpine fan, I trust the brand "Alpine" I have had their speakers before and held up well. Just my $.02 cents.
