As everyone should know, PRO is coming to BMP in less than two weeks. On Saturday the 17th they run the 'true street' class. I would like to see more cars show up then last year; only three showed other than myself. This class runs street legal cars on a 30 mile drive outside the track and then three passes down the track. The winner is determined by averaging the three ET's together for one ET. That time is your competing time and jugded against the other cars. I think the entry fee is $60 and Pro pays $250 to the fastest car. They also pay $100 for the fastest car in each of the 10 thru 15 second range. That means the fastest car in the 15 second range, the fastest in the 14 second range, etc. That is $600 extra dollars to be won after I take the $250. LOL! I am not trying to push the event, I just would like to see a better showing for our area and see more people take PRO's money.

I'd I end up running 11.99 or faster without a cage will I be disqualified ?

I can't speak for them, but they were fairly lax last year. The rules on the Pro web site state you have to follow NHRA safety rules.

Id love to give it a shot. I am currently lacking the side bars to the cage and the rear batt shutoff. other than that...I should be about legal. I need to fix my ignition problem first though. Sounds like a blast though.

More time practicing your burnouts at the track, less time taking pics! ;)

Damn, now I might need to register the Buick. I used to do the fun ford true street events and loved the format. Hmmmm. Oh, and good luck in Atlanta, I used to love going up there.

Slicks + Turbo + 5-Speed = not easy to do burnouts.

Not to mention going to the track to race twice in the last year makes me a little rusty.

It's to show that your car can be driven on the street without overheating or breaking. You then have to hot lap 3 passes without overheating or breaking. This shouldn't be to difficult for most, but for those who are on the edge, it just might push them over.

I'm confused. There are payouts for the fastest car in each one-second range? So, a 15.01 avg could win 100 dollars where a 14.99 would lose? I guess the goal would be to have a consistent car than ran right on the edge of breaking into the next-lowest class.

Your not confused, you are exactly right. PRO is tring to make this class appealing to more cars than just the real fast ones. The way I see it there are seven races in one and eight people who could get paid!

Just to clarify how the race works, after the 30 mile cruise you have to make three passes down the track. The three passes are averaged together for your competing time. If you ran 11.00, 11.50 and 12.00 your competing time would be 11.50. Easy!

Not sure if they follow the EXACT same format (although it's pretty damn close). I know in FFW T/S you can't change tires, open your hood, you can only open your trunk to turn your bottle on (if you have one). One hour cooldown time before the runs, then it's 3 back to back runs (although there is roughly 15 or so minutes due to the size of the classes which are generally over 50 cars in FFW). My friend MIke (yellow 95gt at the last track night) has won 2 times in the FFW series for the closest to the 11 sec range (with a perfect 11.000 at last year Gainsville).
Good class to learn H/U racing with.

You can run slicks after the drive, but they can not be larger than 10.6" actual tread. So you can change your tires, add fuel and open your bottle in your trunk. You are not allowed to open your hood at all and you can only let air out of your tires in between runs. The cool down period varies, but it has been more than 30 minutes and very little time in between runs.

Who is going to show for the race? Racing or not? I will be leaving my shop at 7:30. They start time runs at 9:15 and the meeting for the true street drivers is @ 11:30. You need to be there early to fill out the tech card and to be tech'd in.

My spies at Bradenton told me that Greg Zoetmulder with the 1980 Jeep CJ7 was making 8.8 passes last night. He won the true street finals last year with a 9.97 average. I would have that covered, but if he is making passes that fast I will have my hands full. See you at the track.
