So, what did everyone else think of today's drag race, er, autocross course?
That was the fastest course I've run. We were getting into 3rd really quick and you could hold 80-90MPH <<Edit, o.k. after watching it ten times I'll say 73 to 86>>>all the way to the turn around. There was a long third gear section towards the finish, too. <<<Edit - finish was 78-82>>> Hats off to whoever made it (wasn't Hutter this time).
Don't think Aaron Nash is ever on here, but congrats on a great drive if your are.... 0.136 - I had an unfavorable wind on my last run;) .

damn, that's fast, i'd have been in 4th:o
GIR also was quite fast & had only one section of cones to avoid, a single slalom on the front straight:roll:

I liked it too! Just couldn't drive it any faster! You and Aaron did a great job, couldn't keep up with you! Even when I thought I drove faster my time ended up being slower! :?
Haven't watched the videos yet, but it would be cool to compare all our runs and have Jesse critique our driving! :) Let me know about the videos.
Again, Excellent times Todd, and Aaron (if you read this)!

Thanks for the compliments.
My camcorder battery died between the second and third runs. So, I have my best on tape (2nd) but not Aaron's (3rd).
I'd like to see yours though, Jamal.
We had the camera dead center so I can't see the insturment cluster. Judging from the sound I'd guess we were pushing 90 before braking for the turn around. It may have been even higher. I did take a peek coming across the finish line and was at 80, +/- 2MPH, on all runs. That's a little beyond Solo2 standards but it was a rush and I didn't see anyone get too crazy. The 60-65 MPH 180* probably would worry most safety stewards. Coming into it you had the grass and fence to look at which was a little intimidating so I don't think Aaron or I ever took it at the maximum possible speed. I'd imagine the M-Coupe was able to carry a little more momentum through there.
Usually I walk a course and then find I have to drive it slower than I anticipated. This course was entirely the opposite. There were sections that you just couldn't go fast enough. It's hard to throw it into 3rd and stand on it for several seconds when that's something you never really do at an autocross.
Even when I thought I drove faster my time ended up being slower! Man, I know. Aaron put the pressure on with his last being a little over a tenth better than my second. I went through my third at 99% (still too slow on the 180*) and thought it was a great run. I came over the line really expecting to see a 73.XXX, maybe even a 72.XXX, and it was a let-down...
Another run would have been nice. I still don't see the logic in breaking for a full HOUR for lunch. In their four run system everyone has an entire heat off. Why can't they eat then? And the difference between having 99 drivers running a mandatory four runs and 107 drivers running a mandatory three runs - ! what's the real difference?! But, like Jesse pointed out on the last one there, it preps you for the big events where that's all you're getting.

More seat time would be a better preperation for me! :)

Then going to Deland or GIR would have been better for you.;)
Deland supposedly had 10 runs, and GIR had 6

Yeah but I'm greedy - I want more runs at Ft. Myers.

Here's my 2nd (http://www.fastjam.com/autox/gcac040404a.wmv) and 3rd (http://www.fastjam.com/autox/gcac040404b.wmv) runs for comparison. I can't believe how fast you were going! I think at the end of my 3rd run, was the only time I hit the rev limiter in 3rd, which is good for 80 mph I believe, no 90 for me! Other than the turnaround I'm not sure where else I could've gone faster, maybe the start? The finish in the 3rd run was better but I don't think I went any faster at the turnaround.
A couple of problems I had with the car this weekend, could've caused me some time, SC belt slipping (again!), you can hear it whenever I shift into 3rd, the car wouldn't accelerate right, and all that rubber dust all over the engine and SC pipes explains it! The other was brakes (again!), this time it might be fluid related. Ever since Primus, my brakes have been acting up and I've been too lazy to take care of it. I haven't done any events until this weekend. I noticed it Saturday during practice and hoped the problem would go away the next day, no luck! :( That track is VERY hard on brakes, more than Sebring believe it or not. I need to flush the system and take care of this belt problem before the next event!
Get me that video so we can give Jesse something to do! ;)

I'm thinking about buying one of those duplex's they're building next door! I'm going to have to go down there on a Saturday and burn up a set of tires.
I wasn't seeing 90 either but I was 2.5 seconds slower than either of you guys. OversteerS2K - just out of curiosity, are your Hoosiers shorter than the stock tires? I'm just trying not to kill myself trying to do 90 down there:)

You tell me. The overall diameter is 0.4" smaller on the fronts which is where I'm getting the speedo reading from. TireRack's site doesn't list the revs per mile, though.

Don't you mean 64.xxx? Yeah, that's what I meant.
Nice runs Jamal. I can't pick out where you could have gone faster...You seemed faster in the "slow" segments than I was, so maybe you were losing some RPM's with that belt slipping under heavy torque.
The other was brakes (again!), this time it might be fluid related. Ever since Primus, my brakes have been acting up and I've been too lazy to take care of it. I haven't done any events until this weekend.
You needed brakes? Maybe the last line there is your clue on where the time was lost....and you know how the transition from track to autocross effects some people.
I hope they repeat that course sometime in the future.

25 inches vs. 24.6 inches? - Speedo should be off by less than 2 mph from stock at 90mph. Close enough for Government work.

Jamal...
I don't have a lot of time, but the main thing I see is just driving point to point too much.
especially in the double gates where it's like:
x.....................x<
x.....................x<
heading up the page, you're right on the 2 inside cones... I think you should try to enter the first gate in the middle, and then be tight on the last one. It sounds sorta counter-intuative, but it increases your arc a bit, and lines you up better for the next gate. That alone would allow you to keep your speed up a bit more. Fell behind in the slaloms a tad too.
Back to studying and sleeping.

Thanks Jesse, I'll keep that in mind the next time I'm down there!
