View Full Version : Which Sub?

I am selling my subs(JBL GT120) that are mounted in a ported box, and buying 1 sub,(mainly) in order to have more space, and losing some weight. I've searched the internet(googled) and I still can't decide. Which subwoofer would be the best buy? Or would it be better to sell one of the subs and use the other one in a ported/sealed box?
Objectives:
1. More room in my trunk area.
2. A subwoofer that is accurate.
Depending on the sub you pick, which type of box should I go with?
What amp do you recommend?
If this helps: I listen to (dancehall) reggae most of the time, (so I need a sub that is good for low tones of bass,) and the sub will be going in a hatchback.

 jk umm anything is loud in a hatch but definitely go with a ported box if you want lower bass
JBL and MTX amps are good, not too expensive but still good sound, as far as the sub, there is so much to choose from...check out eclipse subs www.eclipse-web.com
it kinda depends on how much you expect to spend, give us a price range for amp and for sub and we can prolly give you more specifics
hey hit up slow 5.0 in the for sale forums hes depserate to sell his sub and amp. probably a perfect setup for u.

I am willing to spend a reasonable amount(I don't have an exact price). I am not looking into anything extreme, for example I had the 2 JBLs in a ported box and my amp is a 800 watt amp (the installer said my subs could use an amp that pushes more power to the subs, meaning there is more I could get from my subs) and at some volume levels my subs were too much for me. I am not one to listen to loud music all day, sometimes I like to listen to music while volume is low, but the bass is still pumping.

I don't have mine yet but Elemental Designs was recommended to me. I'm getting mine in the next couple weeks.

There's alot of great subs out there. Your best bet would probably be to go to a couple local audio shops and take a listen.

with those objectives i would look into any of the newer technology subs which have the larger ruber surrounds
these subs move farther so there is more bass and less distortion, work in small sealed enclosures, and produce tons of bass
the flip side is that they need TONS of power
i have a rockford bd1500 on my 12W7
that amp is rated at 1500 watts x1
