I got the from free for all. I thought I would post in in here, since this crowd would be more inclined to go.

Is there a listing somewhere of all the Bay area kart tracks (rental karts)? I was thinking about heading over to Malibu GP this week to get some seat time prior to Ft. Myers but if there's other places to go, that would be good to know.

Oilleak, I'll go run a few laps with you. I'm w/o one of those job things, again, and have some Virage lap tickets laying around somewhere.

Sounds like a plan. Pretty much anytime during this week is okay by me.

Those things are slower than I remember. The timing display didn't work either.

A lot slower than I remembered. We were thinking that they turned down the governors on them or, that they're old worn out engines and wont go any more. Seems like the timer wasn't working the last time I was there a couple years ago. Maybe that's the norm.
I did remember that there's a kart track a few miles from me on SR674. It's a 1/4 mile dirt oval but I think they do have a rental kind of thing going. I might drive by there tomorrow and check it out.

Drove by on Saturday. They have an arive and drive sort of program every Tuesday night - I think. the web site sucks. anyway, I might drop by on Tuesday night to check it out. It's less than 10 minutes from my place

Went to the Kart track lst night. Looks pretty cool. I'll deffinitely go run there if for no other reason than it's racing less than 10 minutes from me.
The deal is (as I remember) 5 10-12 lap races for $25. The track is about a 1/5th mile paved oval with some banking in the corners. Lap times run about 12 seconds for the front runners so each race is 2 to 2-1/2 minutes. The karts are real racing chassis's, a bit on the older side but looked reasonabley well maintained. They're Briggs & Stratton powered so they're not super fast but they are fast enough to get loose in the turns or spin - which we saw one guy do twice. That's more than I can say for Malibu GP which I don't think you could spin if you tried. At least not without stomping on the brakes. Anyway, looked like fun. Not sure how much of it would be transferable to autox but not a bad way to kill part of a tuesday night.
The program is arrive and drive - you only need long pants and closed toed shoes and be 18 or over. They run a kids program with quarter midgets and the Tuesday night thing helps to support that effort.
Here's a couple of pics - first one is the start of the second heat. I've got a movie too but no where to post it.

not very well...they don't have enough power to hold a drift....at least with the speed governor set where it usually is.

I went to the track on Saturday and I must say that I was really impressed. The karts have a decent amount of hp and the grip is pretty good. The track is small but has a really nice layout. I will probably hit it once or twice a week.

Just to remind people, it's on US19 about a 1/2 mile north of 38th Ave N in St Pete.
