Today was Runday Sunday at the local track. They don't display times on Runday Sunday so it wasn't a big deal that my camcorder batteries were dead. We got the car unloaded and ran 12.30 @ 115 with a 1.93 60' right off the trailer. Boost was at 18psi so we figured we were looking good to turn it up and see what happens. After a few passes in the mid 12s, we managed a 12.28 but through all the passes we made, we couldn't get the boost higher than 18 psi. Frustrated, we decided to make one last pass and pulled off an 11.95 @ 117.09 with a 1.80 60' time. after that we loaded it up on the trailer and will be getting ready for Friday night at the next Tampa Racing Track Day.

1/8th MPH-90.41
1000'-10.032
1/4-11.950
1/4 MPH-117.09

Nice time, the mph is good for 11.50s ... running slicks? I'm guessing you were still spinning in first.

Yeah, we are running small slicks (22 x 8 on 15s) and an open differential for some one wheel peel action. We may go to some 24.5 x 8s soon and someday get a real diff. It spun some in 1st and second, but it felt like I really kind of bogged it a little. The track was hooking pretty well.

Congrats. Should be fun watching it run at the TR track day, I think I'll stop by and see if I can get some inspiration for further weight reduction while my car's apart- can't take it to Goodwill heights, sadly, I have to stick to the stock-appearing plastic-paneled interior in a street car.

You did 11.9's on a 14b turbo? Or did I misread that...

11.9 on a 14b. You read that right.

Mods are listed on website.

Thanks Zate. We will probably Dyno at some point. Probably about 125 WHP.

lol.... that will just make it even more impressive..hehe

i am always impressed by a really good ET with low MPH... and a really bad ET with really high MPH .. lol... one shows great efficiency.. the other gobs of power.. lol

That's cool, I actually started a very similar project a couple of years ago with a 90 front drive eclipse I picked up from autoway's wholesale bid sale for $179 with, you guessed it, a locked up turbo. It's funny reading your steps on your website, because mine started out so similar. Then the balance shaft belt broke, made the timing belt skip, and bent all the valves. Someone stole the computer when it was sitting behind the place I used to work at (wasn't you guys, was it? ) and I eventually lost interest. Funny now seeing what I could have done, but oh well, just finally sent the car to the junk yard last week.

I actually think it will dyno @ about 275 WHP. The MAx HP ever found on a 14b is only 5-10 HP more than that. No one pushes things far enough.

BBB-Don't know where your ECU went...

We are sparking a lot of budget cars. We spend as little as possible, but still make progress and we work about 2-3 days a month on the car. We have friends who are building a project just like our but in a 90 Colt body. Theirs is going to be fast too. Go get that Eclipse back from the junkyard!

Damn, you took "weight reduction" to a whole new level. :o :D So how much does it weigh now? You should sell some of those parts you removed and deduct it from your dollar ratio on the site. ;)

Friday night 4/2/04

Night started out good, but it was down hill from there.

We still cannot get this turbo to boost over 18 psi. Also, most of the time it falls to 16 psi from about 5000 rpm on up. I don't know if it's a bad intake leak, bad wastegate flapper or turbine housing ir just a bad 14b. It doesn't use oil and there is VERY minimal shaft play, but it won't make more than 18psi even with the flapper tied shut and no boost signal on the wastegate actuator.

Anyway... First run off the trailer. Here's the slip.

60' - 1.794
330' - 5.076
1/8 - 7.729
1/8 - 92.02 mph
1000' - 10.014
1/4 - 11.929
1/4 116.39 mph

60s got bad fast and ended up with a bunch of 12.2-12.3 slips. Even got a new best mph. 117.23 Must have held 18 psi for a few extra rpm. Guess we will have to take a better look at it in the near future.
