Well I installed my system like 3 weeks ago and I've had no problems at all with the amps, except the tweeters were cutting out some times on my components. Now I get in my truck and the stereo worked, turn it up a little bit and the amp cuts off and the red light on it comes on which I assume is the protect light since its too dark to really tell right now. So what can be going on besides the amp being messed up?

If it were the fuses the amp wouldn't work at all. It still works when I turn the stereo off and back on again and keep it down. But if I turn it up the amp goes out again.

I double check all your wiring, make sure it's all correct and secure. Is the amp hot to the touch?

Not even warm. But if my wiring was wrong wouldn't something have messed up 3 weeks ago? Nothing has changed at all. And I know for a fact nothing is in the wrong place. I was the only one involved in the install and wiring what I did was simple.

How high do you have the gains turned up?

Make sure the amp is stable at the ohm load you're running. If so try turning the gains down and see if the problems persist. There might also be a speaker wire grounding somewhere.

Ok, its a profile 4 channel amp running at 4 ohms. I turned the gains down already. I am thinking of taking this amp back and getting something else actually. I want something louder anyways and this thing is giving me problems. Anyone have any suggestions for about $200-250? I want a clean amp that will put out pretty close to 100rmsx4.
talk to wshmoer on the boards hes got a bitch load of amps, his aim is dub tre 3, tell him eli sent u.

Well I was going to get it from thezeb.com since I am returning my current amp to them and will have a credit. I'm looking into rockford amps, are they clean for highs?

RF is decent. Much better than Profile.

Well before my amp started cutting out my tweeters were cutting out when I turned it up I think because the amp isn't very clean. If I spend more I want to be sure its a good amp is all. I don't want to have to worry about anything cutting out. My girl's power acoustik doesn't do that and its old as hell.

its called clipping. An amp will do this if a speaker is grounded , wrong ohms load, or if the gain are set to high and it causes an overload. It send it into a protection mode. Did you turn up you amp gains?

I think he said he turned the gains down already...

Ya I turned the gains all the way up with the stereo all the way up. Then I turned the gains down until the amp would stay on and left them there. Turned out to be only about 1/3 the way up. Now I'm looking into new amps, probably a RF.

Personally I think most Pioneer HU's are pretty nice. And the amp I am looking at getting is the 801x:

Is it any good or no? I can't find any decent amps for less than $300 that put out a good clean 100rms x 4 or more.
