Just like the subject says. Alpine Type S 6x8s vs. Rockford FRC4368s? These will be run off my pioneer HU until I get an amp that'll push 50x4rms. I'm ordering these today or tomorrow. Thanks.

Oh and so you know the price difference is $108 shipped for the RFs and $144 shipped for the alpines. Also, the alpines are 2-ways and the RFs are 3-ways if it makes any difference. Thanks.

Damn guys. I went looking on caraudio.com forums and everyone seems to think going with 6.5" components is the way to go instead of 6x8 coaxials. Now I am thinking of just skipping the 6x8s and going with only 2 sets of type 4 components and a single 12. Am I just thinking too much or what?

if ur paying $144 for alpine type s speakers then ur getting bent over to begin with. i usually get type r's on ebay for just over $100.
as for the main topic, i havent the RFs so i cant say, but i do love the type r's in my car. however, if you go with type r components, youll need an amp to power em. i have a 60x4 alpine h/u, and when i go above like 26 volume (alpine goes up to 35 for u noobs lol) , the tweeter cuts out for its own protection.
good luck

I was saying the total price for 2 pairs of Type-s's shipped was $144.
I've just decided to go with 2 pairs of 6.5 components, either the type r's or the cdt's I think CL-61's or something like that. Which should I go for? I think 2 pairs of components should be enough highs for me, right?

I hate components in the rear...total overkill. The correct imaging would be to have your more powerful point (amped components) in the front and just throw in some decent coaxials for rear fill. Alot of SQ competitors won't even run rears. It's not needed.
IMO, take the money you would have spent on two cheap sets and just buy one good one.

Just buy a decent set of Coxials and be happy! :)

So type R's are cheap ones? I thought they were good ones? Well anyways, how much better do components sound than coaxials? Say Type R 6x8 coaxials in my back doors and Type R components in the front doors? I don't need so much like a sound stage as just loud as all hell.

Alright, what do you think of the these components and then either another set of components in the rear doors or the same brand coaxials.

Alpine speakers in general is what I mean.

IMO, imaging and sound stage is one of the most important things in car audio. Being the loudest is great fun and all..but not very practical. To me, the whole point of upgrading and sinking countless hours and dollars into a custom system is to re-create music as accuratley as possible...to pop in a track and have it sound like you're sitting front row at a live concert. When you're at a concert...which direction is the music coming from?
Being loud is easy. Anyone can buy some ungodly speakers and massive amps and rattle the neighborhood. It takes real skill and talent to make music shine though.

I understand where u r coming from. The thing is I use my car audio. Not just sitting in the car. I use it with the windows down/doors open. I need loud, plain and simple. If its loud with windows/doors open then it will be fine with the doors open.

Here's the thing..."loudness" comes from your sub(s) anyways. There's no way a set of components alone could ever hit what a decent sub does...so thinking that adding 2 sets of components is going to make you "louder" than 1 isn't necessarily true. Again, the reason I say it's overkill is because 1. it can create an unbalanced sound stage and 2. if you are serious about being "loud" then you're going to have a decent sub/amp combo to begin with...which in turn is going to drown out the rear fill anyways. Even so, like I said in a previous post, if you invest what you would have spent on 2 mid-end components instead on just one more higher-end component and a decent amp...it's not only going to sound better (quality AND imaging wise), it's also going to be louder.
But it is your car, your money....do whatever makes you happy.
just buy some compression horns if you want loud

why not just go with some EVs they'll be loud

What are EVs?
Unless something else comes up heres what my setup will be:
CDT 6.5 components in the front doors/tweeters mounted high facing backwards
CDT 6.5 coaxials in the rear doors
Elemental designs 12 in a 1.9c.f. vented box
I'm getting a 75x4rms amp to push the highs/mids and a 400x1rms amp to push the sub. I think it will sound good for the money and I can always add more highs later if I need to. Thanks again.

Hm. Thezeb.com is out of the CDTs with silk dome tweeters but have the titanium ones. Are those going to be too "harsh" for me? I definitely don't want to have problems turning my system up because its too high and hurts my ears. I was just about to order my shit too. Thanks in advance.

I say RF out of the two. Really it depends what type of sound your are going for. I personally am not a fan of Alpine speakers. They do not carry the high ranges very well and are overly bassie. They seem to make the door vibrate more than anything else. And thats garbage. To me clarity is important. I have Bostons and with the upgraded HU the change in quality is amazing. Seriously. Just upgrading the speakers and ID will prove wonders. I would do that and then see how it sounds. Going mod by mod will make you appreciate how the sound quality improves with each item. :D
