Yuk, more audio set up trouble.

This is being done to a 2001 Ford Mustang with the Mach 460 factory setup. I went to get a quote for installation of a head unit, subs/amp and the guy tells me that if I'm keeping the factory speakers(Mach 460) then I need to get them re-wired in order for them to work w/ the head unit or else they'll sound distorted. The head unit is an Apline CDA-7892. Has anyone else that has installed a head unit with the Mach 460 speakers experienced any problems like this with their speakers or have re-wired them to avoid it? Thanks

I would think it's just a matter of by-passing the factory amp, unless they make a harness you can use in conjunction with the amp.

when I used to work at circuit city, it would cost the customer 80$ to by pass the factory amp in order to put in a headunit. The thing is with factory amps is they ran at 1 ohm or some shit and it wouldnt work rite wit the headunit so we either had to use a bypass module thinger or run all new wires from the headunit to the speakers. So yeah ur gonna have to do it

Afboy, if the speakers aren't re-wired will they sound like something is wrong with them, or will they just lose some sound quality?

Ok heres the deal

The factory speakers are made to run wit the amp. When u buy aftermarket speakers they have 4 ohm coils. Now the speakers that come with your car are 1 ohm coils(most of the time) So ur gonna have to bypass amp, and buy all new speakers. (Yes i know it sucks. You pay all that extra money for a better stock sound system just to have to pay even more to change it out) In other words you need

1. Bypass the amp
2. Buy all new speakers

So one option is to do what you said above, however, if I don't have the money right now to buy new speakers, will the stock speakers blow if they aren't re-wired? or will they just sound crappy?

go to best buy and buy a PSI2 amp intergrater harness for 40$ and use a resistor to get rid of turn on pop from factory amps (i think there are 3 in that car) and that will intergrate all your factory speakers without actually buying new stuff or having rewire anything hope this helps

Like i said before, those speakers most of the time have 1 ohm coils. That cd player is meant to push 4 ohm coil speakers. its gonna distort and sound shitty and after a while just blow. Buy new speakers. U can bypass the amp all day but ur still gonna have to get new speakers. Thats what sucks about premium sound systems is they put in speakers with a diff ohm rating than stock

I'm leaning towards replacing the speakers. Would it be ok if I replaced the 6'x9's in the back and the 6's in the front and left the little conical speakers that look like tweeters or should I replace those too?
