How about going to the next CFR regional road race. Sebring Feb 28/29. One does not have to be a SCCA member to attend. Speak politely to the folks at registration and they should allow you to enter the track after signing the proper credentials.

Look in the Pro7 forum - that's one of NASA's spec7 classes - you should be able to hook up with someone there that has more info. Might find some basics on NASA's site too - I think they started the class.

awesome... Yeah so far everything I see about IT7 / Spec 7 / Pro 7 is that its extremely economical, close racing, and a wonderful place to learn....
I'm getting more and more turned on to doing this rather than pissing around and spending more money on a street car so it can become a money pit...

you have no idea how much money you'll spend racing if you think street cars are money pits....just an observation.
Figure on ~1000 bucks per race weekend. This was talked about earlier this year on this list, IIRC.

I was in that thread... A street car is a money pit because it has no practical purpose.... Pouring 15K into a S13 makes a car that has no sensible class that It can compete in either in autocross or road racing, as well as the fact that then I only have one car..... Maybe I'd buy a beater also, but then I'm looking at more insurance..
With a dedicated road racing car, I not only save almost 10 grand on the construction, but I save almost 200 a month on misc fees like insurance...
Overall, you get more bang for the buck doing purpose built racing than trying to make a street car that does everything well..
Spec 7 is great because a race weekend for some of the High Performance Driving Schools is cheap because of low entry fees (sort of) and a low yearly membership cost.
So a full track weekend is around...
A: tires 400 (maybe less per weekend, I figure 2 "trackdays" on one set), this is if i use competition tires.
B: Brakes at 100 or so
C: Entry Fees at 200-250
D: Misc like Food, and gas to get there.. all cheap..
Its not so bad at 750-1000 per weekend, that gets me 1.5 hours track time. The fees for an actual pro 7 race are about the same...
It all depends on tire wear really, and I'm talking to some pro 7 guys who get 4 events off of one set of tires.. It just depends I suppose...

you'll also need a tow vehicle of some sort

Well, I'm working on that.. look in the truck forum....
Theoretically I could drive the RX-7 to events.. but I have to look at how much of a PITA that would be vs the cost of a tow vehicle....
