FWIW, went to BMP last Thurs and the head staging guy didn't see me after I staged. Ran 12.6 and the guy at the ticket booth said "Immediatley head to the front of staging" ???? I asked the what did I do? He just said he did see my Helmet. So needless to say they're crackin down on safety. -Mark

Great read !

This is now sticky material.

Glad to see I have everything but the cage to qualify for 10's..

I believe BMP is an IHRA track so some of you all can get away with a little more...im just happy 11.49 is the roll cage requirement instead of 11.99

Look below all of the boxes in the above link, it references the IHRA rules for every category.

Yeah, a roll cage has no place in a street car, well, I wouldn't want one in any car I would be using for any practical purposes, too. What are these "competition licenses" they mention, though? It says IHRA tracks require them?

Competition licenses are required for 9.99 at NHRA and 9.49 (i believe) at IHRA sanctioned tracks. Basically 6 passes have to be made proving you can handle the car at these speeds and faster.
They also require a full physical to be had within 30 days of getting the license.
As for the roll cage comment, my feeling is that if you have your car going that fast you need the cage. It's only there for your saftey.

i was at BMP thursday and made 10 passes at 13.99 or better and no mention of a helmet...and my friend went 12.8 in his cobra and again no mention

Consider yourself lucky, just do not be pissed if they boot you off one day.

Okay what is the story on T-topped cars? I have heard about BMP treating them just like a convertable as far as the rules go. I would think that they would be considered a hard topped car as long as the T-tops are installed.

nhra has required a roll bar for anything 11.99 or quicker for years but also I was told if it has a roll bar cage you have to have harness reguardless how fast it is so if your car runs 14.00 and has a roll bar you must have a harness. and if your car is fast a roll bar is a good idea I have 2 friends that have crashed at over 100 miles per hr. both had cages and both are still racing.both went to the hospital for several days but no doubt it saved their lives. ask yourself does your car go 100 on a pass.

Then why the hell did they give me so much guff last Sat. ? Said I needed a jacket and 5 point for anything faster than 12.49. I was only running 12.20 's
They were cracking down hard though. I wanted to squeeze, but was looking forward to staying for the bracket racing later that night. They were cracking down left and right. I should have just squeezed and left. I made it to like the quarters or semi's and didn't make it to the line fast enough on the final round and was DQ'd.

believe it or not, t-tops are pretty weak, but the reason they want you to have a roll bar and wearing a helmet is 1, glass breakage, 2, you wont get your lid peeled back if you roll it. it only takes a blow out or dropping a ball joint to flip a car.

WoW I just realized after reading that chart that I have nothing required to run for what ET my car is capable of doing

9.99 and faster doesnt need a license for test and tune. How do I know? I do it:)

doesn't mean that it's not needed, it's just that you haven't been caught.. obviously they're not as strict, but

it says 5 or 6 point roll bar needed for 10.99 or faster. would this qualify as a 5 point roll bar?

Count the points and tell us. :D

williamb82

well, i know its a 4 point without the cross bar. i dont know if they count the crossbar as another point or not, as it meets one of the exsisting points. thats why im asking. also, i plan to get a 1 peice driveshaft made when i swap to a th400. the driveshaft will have to go through the rear crossmember so if the front u joint breaks. it cant drop down, would that count as a driveshaft loop, or do i still need to buy an aftermarket one even though it wont do anything?

No you can't. And to say a driveshaft loop wont do anything is plain dumb.

williamb82
08-24-2005, 02:20 PM
ok, but if you saw underneath my car, youd understand why i said the driveshaft loop really wont do much in my app if i have a 1 peice shaft. they are cheap so i will get one anyhow, it doesnt hurt, and is a requirment.

Are there any reference charts for what the 1/8 tracks require?

maverick1090

You gotta keep this in mind.. Safety rules aren't put in place to bust balls! They are there because something bad has happened in the past, so they put a rule in place to protect YOU!!! JUST FOLLOW THE RULES!!!!! It's really simple, and I don't have to see you get hauled off with body parts missing!!!!!

We were warned when it went 7.51 on its very first pass that if it went into the .40s, I better have a jacket on. So I had to borrow a jacket for the rest of the night.

Called up Jegs the next day and had a helmet and jacket coming.

Derek, did you have your seat bolted/welded to your cage? I read that somewhere if you have a aftermarket seat or cage that the seat has to be connected to the cage. Or something like that. Is there any truth to that?? Fire Jacket is at 11.50 right? -Mark
