I know I'm in the minority here, but I don't see anything wrong with it. You'd have to set the car up to be pretty unsafe on the street to do it effectively (bumping up rear swaybar stiffness, rear damping and rear tire pressure at an event might allow for a dual-purpose setup), and it would take a much different technique than RWD, but it would be just as fun. I actually think it would take MORE driver skill to be good at drifting a front driver.
I used to drive a Saturn that I had set up for autocrossing. In dialing out as much understeer as possibly, I had a car that "almost" oversteered. Lifting off the throttle on corner entry would initiate rear wheel drift, and I can't tell you how many people I had take autocross runs in my car and spin it because they expected it to understeer... and it oversteered. I found a few autocross course 2nd gear sweepers that lent themselves to a true 4-wheel drift in that car.
Power oversteer is about the only thing you can't to in a FWD car.
Good luck talking the powers-that-are-becoming in the local drift scene into allowing a FWD car into one of their events.

Drop throttle oversteer is possible in a FWD car .
Many things are possible in a FWD car .
Can you contrinue that drop throttle oversteer around a 300ft diameter circle 5-6 times ?
/end story

No, but you won't see a 300 ft circle at SPC, either.
The type of drift event that is likely to be seen locally, especially at the small SPC site, would lend itself well to the type of drift that a properly set up FWD car is capable of.
I say if someone wants to try to drift a FWD car, let them. As long as they aren't hindering your event in any way, let them try. If they can't do it, they probably won't want to try again. If they CAN do it... you just might be impressed.
What's happening here in the Bay area ain't D1, loosen up a little.

I'm not saying it isnt possible .
I just dont like calling a drop throttle overstter setup car a "Drift" car . It isnt .

dude
i will gladly let a FWD car come out !!!
let him have fun, let him learn. he'll realize that FR is alot better to start drifting.
i've seen videos of guys FF in japan, it's pretty nuts and well, i buy it.
and lift throttle oversteer is nuts and fun. just cause you cant power oversteer doesnt mean you cant drift.
but the definition of drift that many of the kids are into now is just the throttle on oversteer kind.

this can be effectively argued all day long
the drift that most of us consider here, for the most part, is a finese and display of controlled RWD horsepower.
encouraging FF drift would be like saying t-ball is as good as hardball. same idea, similar principal, but totally different ball game. seperates the newbs from the uppers.

At the last autocross at zepherhills "the rental" a fwd escord was oversteering like mad due to a big sway bar in the rear. He was trying for time too and not pulling the e-brake or anything like that...

I'll gladly encourage FF drift! if 30 civics pay and register for dday i'll be happy, because that means they are more about it than the 240sx folk are

I think i'm with mattback in that sense... we should let FF in for DDay simpilly because of publicity and income...

If you intend to allow FWD cars, you should change your flyer and make that fact known. It currently says "RWD cars and their owners".
Gotta say, I'm really disappointed at the turnout for D-Day so far. I realize that the price is a little steep... but, geez, you guys have been screaming for this type of thing for MONTHS! (at least)
If you don't support it, it will die... and quickly.

or it could be the personallity of the organizer, april 4th i'll be there no matter what. this event. i'll prolly pass. people dont want to hand over 50$ to someone who may end up calling them a fag or a ricer, or has already.
do you continue to go to a store where the guy at the counter tells everyone to fuck off? or the place or the one that says welcome back with a smile?

hey, man, what's up?
it was a combination of too much rear tire pressure, driving on weird dust-tarmac and my suspension setup. It was fun, though.
FWD cars should totally be allowed to slide thier asses around, even if what they are doing isn't technically what the kids are jizzin' over this week. Sliding is fun, bottom line.
It's all about having a good time in a safe environment. I think the drift event is a good idea, and i hope it can gain momentum.

Im definitly coming if my car is in one piece by then. Also i think FWD car should join, i know i "tried" drifting in the integra and that was kinda hard to control like a 240 would be.

Too bad what you don't know is that Ocala Kart track was just bought out by another person. U.S. drift has not been informed of this, and the man that u.s. drift made a deal with was evicted from the land that the kart track was built on.
As far as I know the event is no longer taking place.
P/S you being a prick aside, this is STILL A LEGAL DRIFT EVENT where there are no ponds to land your corolla in, no curbs for you to bend control arms on, and very smooth blacktop to slide around on. Just come out and have some fun!

I totaly agree with everyone supporting the event. It's to have fun and have fun legally. Hopefully I'll have the Integra back and do some "poser" FF sliding, I thought those I was through when i hit that fence, but like Mattback said "It's all smooth parking lot blacktop." Ohh, Mattback, thank you for the heads-up on the April 4th event. Hope to see you all Feb.21

so youre saying you didnt land the corolla in a pond ?
actually it was a sign, and a very important lesson learned. i stopped fucking around on the street after that

I'm sorry jake, but you really need to fall over on this one....
Matt has been the only one here to make a coordinated and legal drift event.. end of story...

Im sorry to say this but this forum is really starting to suck, why dont both of you stop verbal wars and just accept that we all make mistakes ( I SHOULD KNOW, NO MORE BUILDINGS FOR ME) and enjoy an event thats here and f*cking thats legal. Why can we just get along????

i never denided anything. if you knew anything about me or that event. i told everyone about it. so dont start acting like im dening it.
also if you knew anything about me you would not be telling people things like i bring ricers to drift spots. or the verious other things you have said over the years.
i have no prblems with matt running a drift event. i think thats great. we need stuff like that around here. i relize the importance just as much as anyone else thats into drifting.
matt seems to have a little hobby of trying to piss off the whole world and that does not go well with what he is doing now.
i think if he works hard to change his personallty it wont take long for people to forget and forgive.
i think this event will be a sucess as long as people get the impression from the start that its going to be a fun time. at this point i dont see my self having fun around a guy that has repetadly bashed me, my car, my life, my friends, and has done it to countless other people.
maybe this will change. who knows. just a big old heads up that most people wont even bother to take the time to say.

Jake if you have any problems with me talk to me in person i will try to work it out with you. i want more than anything just people to get along and help make these events work so that i can get signal and falken out here.
locked up like my rear tires as im heading towards a street sign
