Hey me and my freind got into an arguement about drifting, he tells me he drifts his toyota ceilca, i tell him you cant drift a front wheel drive car, its about impossible, i thought that when you used the e brake to attempt drifting, it was called powersliding with a front wheel drive car, not drifting, could someone clarify this for me? thanks alot -Ben

its not even powersliding with a FWD car.. its merely e-braking....
You cannot drift a front drive car with the same finesse and duration of a rear drive car.. I have yet to see any FWD cars that can consistantly slide for more than 2 minutes like some good D1 drivers in RWD cars.

i'd like to see y2jay or another FWD do 2-3 laps around a real track sideways the entire way.. no breaks to rebuild momentum...

Heck, I'd like to see a rwd car do that... I don't think anyone here in tampa has that kind of skill and power...

Still... that guy has to take "breaks" from the slide in certain places to regain momentum.... He cannot stay sideways and continue to support his momentum with the rears dragging.. eventually he slows down (after 3-5 turns) and has to stop and go straight and not sliding to regain speed.....

well i still think that you can "drift" in a fwd but you cant DRIFT in fwd.heh but seriously tho, i think that all you need is a powerful engine and then you can just drag the back end around. if the engine was powerful enough, it wont matter if you have fwd or rwd, just pull yourself through thet apex of the turn with e-brake engaged. with that said, i dont think that you can pull the 30minute drift bcuz the foward momentum would eventually straighten the car out, no matter how strong the engine.

fwd's can certainly slide and have fun.. but I dont think it has the grace of the standard RWD drift...
I'll give this guy credit where credit is due... His setup on that CRX is spot on and his skills match it... not many people on this planet could replicate what he is doing and thats amazing within itself...
Certainly it is more driver than car for 90% of motorsports.. but there ARE times where the chassis and drivetrain layout is the limiting factor and extended non-stop drifting is one of those where the fwd setup is limited in lots of ways...
