You know im there and willing to donate :)

dunno how many other people know this but here is a run-down of what to expect as a donor.

-Once you are in the registry, you open yourself to be a donor for anyone looking (i.e. 5 years from now, you may be a match for a 10year old with leukemia and would donate then)

-Costs - normally, it would be quite expensive to had the bloodwork done, but as this is a sponsered event, i dont believe it will cost you anything.

-If you are a match - you would either 1) sit in a hospital for about an hour where they hook you up to a filter and filter what they need from you and this is done 3 times or 2) 1 operation, where you are sedated and it is all extracted at once.

-Hospital Bills - will be covered by the person you are donating to, and you see no charges.

-it takes about 8 weeks for a healthy person to replenish what all was donated, and no adverse feelings of sickness or anything such as that would happen.

i hope i included everything, but im sure billy and frances will add/modify info when the time comes.

Also, hope to see a great turnout aswell...if it is anything like the bennigans meetup it would be nice, but everyone is asked to come, even if you just wanna hang out and such.

This is an e-mail I received from one of my old patient's parents. Thier son J.R. passed away last September from Burkitts Lymphoma just days before turning 13. I wanted to pass on her message to everyone here as some inspiration to become a bone marrow donor. This is a post she made on her own messgae board regarding this event.

It has been just a short time since our son J.R.Passed away from Cancer in Sept 2003. J.R. made many friends at All Childrens Hospital in St. Petersburg. One of his friends Casie Snow is in need of a Bone Marrow Transplant and is unable to
find a matching donor. Tampa Racing is holding a Bone Marrow Drive called CARS AGAINST CANCER. You can find the information at www.Tamparacing.com. The Blood moblie and the Bone Marrow coach will be at Hillsborough Community College (Dale Mabry exit)for FREE donations on Feb 28th 2004 between 11:00 and 4:00. Normally there is a cost of $80.00 or less. Please save a child. If not Casie Snow you can be a Hero for one of the many
children who are in need of a Bone Marrow Transplant. J.R. had his Bone Marrow taken 15 days before he passed away. If my 12 year old could do it. So can you. The testing is just as easy as giving blood.

How is the parking going to work for the cars in the show? Do entries park where they want or are we going to be grouped by a category?

Billy
02-24-2004, 05:59 PM
There will be people there to direct entrants to help keep order, but there won't be any specific groupings.

Hi guys Im John's dad I noticed you were running a fund rasier for Cancer. I have prostate cancer and 240,000 new cases will be found this year. About 30,000 will die from it.

I just wanted to say THANK YOU for your efforts to help with the research costs that run in the millions, :)
