Great event. It was not the typical PCA course. The speeds were slightly lower, I always get into 3rd there but didn't today, but it was very challenging. The weather cooperated and the dust was minimal for that place.
Danny Shields brought out his new/used Boxster S (a blue 2002 with hardtop) and smoked evryone, as usual. As far as I can tell from rewinding video tape over and over and trying to decipher the 1/4 inch wrinting on runs 3 & 4, here are the unofficial top 5:
#1 Danny Shields...........Boxster S (R's)...............56.535
#2 Neal Tovsen.........WRX STi (streets)...............58.709
#3 Todd Morrow.......2.0 S-2000 (streets)............58.831
#4 Alan <Rodney> Gross............1.8 Miata (R's)....60.055
#5 James Christopolous.....'84 911T (?).......60.995
The turnout was low, like maybe 45 drivers, and we could have had 6 runs each. Some of the local fast guys weren't present and could have shook things up.
FYI, they are now charging the "others" a $30 entry fee (50% bump from the last few years) and there was no lunch. They had no explanation for the increase and when I asked if it was to discourage "others" from showing up no one would offer a comment. The only thing said was: "Well you run with the SCCA. Don't they charge non-members more? New year, new rates..." Yes, they do, but people have the option to join regardless of what make they drive. We shouldn't have to buy a BMW or Porsche to get the standard rate of $20.

It was a really fun event. Gives you black boogers, though.
I think that people with any make can join the BMWCCA. If that's true, we could all get the member price, right?
I like the fact that there are people skydiving all day in the distance. It's like your at an X-Treme sports-O-rama!

How'd "the rental" do today? I never get to see any of the other "others" run.
That older Corolla was pretty quick...
i finished w/ a 62.5xx in my e34 540
i dont think there were any 993's there today either but i could be wrong....they were primarily sc's and 80's carreras.

I think a club is justified in charging more for non-members than they do for members.
My gripe would have been that their website still says "$20", and if I'd shown up with just $20 in my pocket, I'd have been pissed.

There was some confusion as to whether the times posted were with cone penalties added, or if they were the raw run time, leaving you to add 2 seconds per cone you hit.
I'm pretty sure it's the second one, though, because if not, i was freaking flyin'.
I spent more time sideways and just plain turned around this time than i ever have. It was a blast!
I think my best was a 65.8xx fun run. I know i hit at least one cone, though, maybe more. Do they post any of the results on thier page?

And you got more runs - usually it's 4 tops - good deal - wish I could have gone today
the more i think about it the more i think that we were supposed to add in the times for the cones ourselves... just makes more sense from looking at the times of all the cars.

This was my first time autocrossing and I had a lot of fun. I was that older corolla... My best run of the day was 64.0xx in my last fun run. Anyone see my runs of sideways action? I never hit any cones, spun out, or missed any gates, although it felt like should have hit a few cones... My drifting experience helped me out a lot!
I forgot to go back and get my $10 (they didn't have anything besides 20's at checkin), so it ended up costing me $40, but oh well, it was worth it.
I loved that old 356 porshe and the blue boxer was SO fast!
We got in 7 runs total including the 3 fun runs. Very fun autocross event, I think I may go to more...

I think the BMW CCA posts the BMW times, but I don't think you'll ever see the other's times posted anywhere.
Wish I could have stayed for fun runs...

Yes, but with most clubs you can join regardless of make owned. I don't have to drive a Miata to join SUnriders, right? You don't have to own a "sports car" to join The Sports Car Club of America, etc. I believe you do have to have a verifiable Porsche V.I.N. to join the P.C.A., though. Therfore you'll always be on the high rate plan until you buy one. I'm not familiar with the BMWCCA...I'll check into their membership qualifications.

I left the house with $25. I usually only carry cash if I know a card won't be accepted. The normal $5 for gas, free lunch, and $20 for entry turned to me borrowing $10 from a friend and scamming half his sandwich. It wasn't posted on either club's site and that sort of started my day with a negative mind set.
