I would have to say one of the new yank SS ones. I think that is what they are. SS3600 or something.

I have the Yank SS3600. I'm pretty happy with it. :) They are more expensive than the other guys though, by few hun's. the more extreme you go, the more they cost. mine was close to a grand. A more mild converter can be had for $300-500.

Its a pretty serious 9 inch converter, and drives nothing like stock. If you want a stock like converter, stick to an 11 inch. An 11 inch 2600-3000 stall would drive pretty close to stock.

Hey Mark have you been kicked off the go-karts lately?

If your Wife doesn't want the car to drive to much different than stock go with the Vigilante 3100. I have a TCI converter that I am pretty happy with as well.

Gunslinger- Go-carts rule!

I want something that will shift pretty hard but nothing that would spill my coke when it shifts. So how high should I go? 2500, 3100, 3500? Thanks for all the replys. -Mark

For the LS1 go at least 3100. The TCI I have now is rated to stall at 31-3400 and it doesn't jerk to much unless you are on it over half throttle or so. Also the converters beyond 3100 seem to feel much looser.

Size of the converter is more important then the stall, IMHO. an 11 inch converter will still ride with a close to stock feel.

If you what harder shifting you need to do more than just change the converter.

sounds like you want a stock convertor with a shift kit installed or increased line pressure via LS1 edit. any aftermarket stock convertor will take its toll on a stock 4L60e - i have a yank st-4000 but it is far from a daily driver. if she doesnt want a race car give her a stock car. putting in a convertor under 3200 rpms is a waste in my opinion from a performance standpoint. also remember that vig convertors stall way higher than advertised. about 400-500 rpms higher. so a 3200 stalls at a real work 3600-3700 rpms at wot.

Well when I got to the track she's gonna run too. So if I put a shift kit in it will shift harder but still have a low stall so it will seem to be a stockish feel? Sorry, I'm new to A4's. I was born on having 3 pedals. :D -Mark

Maybe you should just put a gear, tires and a shift kit in it. Should run pretty damn good then.

your vig stalls around 3400-3500 rpms doesnt it spydum? i am also looking to upgrade convertors soon.

Spydum

yup, like you said before precision industries (vigilante) converters are typically 400-500 over the rated stall.. this one will do 3200-3400..

I'm thinkin about stepping up to a 3800 or so.. we will see.. depends if I upgrade the cam or not.. the 3000 is great for my current setup tho.. managed a 1.68 at the badrap trackday on nittos.. seems like its laying down on the top end, not sure if its the converter or just my car.

in only pull 92 mph in the 1/8 but pull nearly 117 through the traps. i love my convertor and i dont even lock it up like some do.

I had a midwest in my t/a..3600/2.0 str b/c I ahd 3.73's..if you have 3.42's thats a bigger gear than the stock 3.23's I would go around 3200 on a ls1, you will be happy, yank, TCI, or midwest is the way to go, if you can get a deal on a yank do it or the other ones will be cheaper, and try to get a 9 in if you can, I had no problems daily driving mine when I ahd it, jsut other stuff broke on it instead lol
