I've got a small Problem with my Sub making a fast pulsating bumping sounds every now and then.
I had this problem a couple times before, Then I reciently replaced my CD player and redid all wiring conections behind the head unit and EQ.
The bumping stopped for a while but just started again last night on my way to Largo.
The stereo plays fine 99.8 percent of the time with no negative feed back or unwanted noise, But now that this has started again...I'm starting to get worried I'm going to pop the sub or blow an Amp.
What could this problem possibly be? I need someone to point me in the right direction to fix this problem.
Any suggestions?
Thanks, -Jeff

I would start with the wires that go to the subwoofer amp and from the amp to the subwoofer. Basically, check everything that you haven't. It could also be your amplifer :( . But check the simple things first.

your rca cables or your amp is shorting

Thanks! I'll go tear the sub RCAs out today and replace them. I don't think it's the AMP itself...
Now that I think about it, Those RCAs are a couple years old and have powered a few different systems.
I'll keep everyone posted.

could it be ur ground ? maybe check that.

So far.....I guess not.
I replaced the RCA's coming from my EQ to my Amp for the Sub, Since that fix I haven't had it happen again.
I do have another question though, That’s Amp related;
Can a single channel on an Amp go in and out whenever it wants?
My highs on just my drivers side keep fading out, It seems to be when I'm on a long trip, Like more then 20 minutes of driving.
It may be coincidence but that’s when it seems to happen.
All my door highs are connected to a RF amp, The passenger side never fades but the left side seems to always be the culprit...
Any Ideas?
mine did that with gains too high.. sounds liek thermal fron the HU

have you checked your speakers maybe you have burned up the connector and/or it is lose and touching ground so im guessing your running a 2channel amp for your highs may i ask what brand?

Sure, The brand of amp is Rockford Fosgate, The speakers that keep fading out are running off of a component set and are also Rockford.
So the highs and mids are on and off at the same time, But thay are being run through a RF component box (can't remember the name of that piece at the moment...It's to early) Huh
crossover?
Well switch up your rcas front and back, and see if the sound follows, or if it stays in the drivers front...

when that happens its normally a speaker wire grounding out somewhere

hey man i think that it might be the amp. what year is your car and how old is the alternator? i think that the amp is sucking all the power out of the alternator and i think that is why there is the "in and out" instance. i think that or a loose wire somewhere, perhaps in the amp itself. if you checked all of the wiring, try to test it with another amp. u may need to get a capacitor. if u check the amp and all the wiring and everything checks out it is probable the alternator/power supply. gell cell is in your future perhaps, or even a capacitor? i have a capacitor brand new in box if that is the case. let me kno i helped at all.

I'm not sure but I think I may have just found my problem. I do have a 1.0 Fared Stinger capacitor, But as we speak I'm tearing my components out and found some brown syrupie stuff on the bottom of the Cap, Could it be leaking something? Could that be my problem all this time?
Also I've noticed that when I let off the gas my volts meter on the cap reads 14.1ish, But when I give the car gas (both day and night) the volts drop to 12.2 and lower in some instances.
If I'm not getting enough juice to the amps...could that be the reason the sub pops and the highs fade out at times?
Man...I wish someone with more knowledge about stereos could physicaly help me out.
I'm in Spring Hill, The only people that know anything around here is AVS, And they are so damn expensive.
The Holidays killed my wallet and I'm slowly getting back on my feet financially,, I don't need these headaches right now.....Damnit!
Anyway, Thanks for everyones help, I think I'm about to just tear everything out and say screw it!

what kinda amp is it? maybe the amp is just beat to all hell?

The amp is in great condition.
It's a Power Acoustic Hammer series 800 watt, I'm only trying to power a 12" Cerwin Vega with it. It's not even a stroker.
SO if it was my Sub amp...why would I be having problems with my Rockford punch 100 at the same time, I only have one component set running off of it.
Also, with my capacitor, It used to turn it self off after a minute or so, Now it's constantly reading out the Volts...even when nothing at all is on in my car.
try everythign without the cap..
cap could be providing power irregularites..
the thing about both amps.. if one amp is shitting the bed and drawing crazy current.. the other may not get full pwer..

yeah it sounds like the system is protecting itself from blowing up due to irratic current.

Well...The cap's out of the car, I ran out of time and Patience last night!!!
I'll tangle with it some more tonight after work.
I'll post the conclusion when I find out.
Thanks again for all your help.

Hey man try to get a noise filter from best buy or circuit city. your head unit nay already have a noise filter built in but it may be shot. looks like a black box with 2 wires commming out of teh ends.
let me know if that solves it.

You got it!!!
I finally got over the Flu (for the most part) and a wild hair up my ass yesterday.
I found out that when I turn left at high speeds or hit large bumps in the road...Thats when the highs cut out and flicker back in.
With that in mind I left the amps running then jiggled all the wires one by one.
Come to realize it was the left side RCA for my Highs that was shorting out.
I replaced the RCA with a new one and all is working perfect....Even the Sub!
I guess that RCA was sending a bad short signal to the EQ which ties all amps and speakers together.
Thanks everyone for all your help and suggestions.
No I know where to turn if anything else takes a shizzit.
I'd rather ask around here then pay a stereo shop out the ass to do the same thing I can.
Peace, -Jeff
