Went to 1320 Friday, how'd I do?
Friday, I went to the 1320 at Bradenton. I can't find the receipt we wrote the numbers down on, but out of about 4 runs, I managed to get a a few mid 14's and two 14.1s. My trap ranged from 99-105 and my 60' was about 2.2 -2.5. If Jordan still has the receipt, I'll post the exact numbers. My last 2 runs were getting better because I finally figured out how to launch without a lsd. My mods consist of a fmic, a bov, 3" exhaust after the stock turbo outlet pipe, and a manual boost controller.
Now, for the excuses. I wasn't holding boost well. The boost control was set at about 14.5 psi and it would boost to about that and then drop/level off at between 9-11 psi. I understand the t25 can't hold that much boost, but I don't think it should drop that much. Could my bov (Greddy S, vented to atmosphere) be causing this? I believe the turbo is going, but other blame the boost controller. The reason I do not suspect the mbc is because it has worked perfectly and held boost on a mr2 turbo, supra tt, fd, and gsx. Then again, all of them had a stock bov which was recirculated.
Hopefully I'll have the boost problem sorted out in time for the next track day. I should also have some stickier street tires (not the all season tripe I was running), along with wider wheels and some other stuff by then.
Sorry for the long post,
Johann

an HKS actuator will not let boost hold solid if you have 1) a crappy manual boost controller and 2) a stock T25. they simply can't hold boost.
Johann(sp), give us a call if you need anything.

johann dont feel bad... when i first went to the track i had basically a stock sr with some tires i picked up from a junkyard...
for your first time our there dont worry about it, the driving only gets better... basically it wasnt just you having traction problems... i drove my friends s14 with some falken ziex's, i launched at 1700 somewhat slipping it and it still immediately just shot up to redline... and looking at the boost guage it was idling at idle with 15in-hg... we soon found 2 vaccum leaks... boost was going form 12psi back down to 8psi... i ran a 14.7 with all these little missfits... fixed up the problems and its running 10x better...
basically that 14.1 isnt too bad for your first time with all season tires... lsd?? or no??

yeah man and you might want to think about getting a profec b or other electronic boost controller.

Mattback, thanks.
I have wheels coming in a few days, but I was going to put the tire money towards suspension (coilovers or spring/shock) since my shocks aren't in the greatest condition. Maybe I should just get tires and a profec b instead? Any ideas? I was going to start auto-x next year.
To SS, if it's not too much trouble, could I get a quote for fine tuning my car? Is it worth it, or should I wait until I upgrade? I have no fuel control (ie s-afc, power fc, etc)
Thanks for your comments and help,
Johann
*edit* Nope, just a good ole open diff
