We currently have three tentative dates scheduled in Gainesville between January and May next year. Except for the fact that there are two months between October and January, that's pretty much every other month.
We would really like to make Gainesville part of a "regular rotation" of the sites that we have in the SCCA West Coast series.
But, for those that didn't already know, we have had some problems getting enough participants to pay for the site at a few of the previous G'Ville events. We will be using these next four events to see if we can build a good sized group of "regulars" to both attend the events and help to make them run smoothly. If we cannot at least break even at G'Ville and/or if we can't find enough people in the area to help run the events, it will seriously affect our ability to run there.
So, now's your chance to vote with your steering wheel! If you like racing at Gainesville, these events are your chance to show it. Bring your friends...bring your friends' friends...heck, bring your friends' friends' friends!

On the cfrsolo2 site there's this nice little thing called an event schedule down the left hand side of the screen. If you click on an event it'll magically bring up the event calendar. If you click on an event in the calendar, you'll amazingly enough be presented with the event flyer in PDF format. There's even a sticky post at the top of this forum that has links to all of the local autox/roadracing/driver training programs.

Why do people ask questions when you give them easy access to all of the information????? <sigh>

Looking at the map and carrying over conversation from another thread...
Is this course ~70 seconds as shown, with the "loop" and all? If so, I think Primus is a lot longer track.
Ignoring the rectangle in the middle and just running the front and back as long straights (everything else was the same), I think I was able to do 2 laps in 62 secs on street tires.
Here are the results from the Solo Trials...
http://www.rivergate5speed.com/scca/soloi/r03-gainesville.html
I think all those times are 2 laps combined.

That is the course map from the martin event. Next weekends course will not look anything like that. It will be a Solo II autocross course. I just posted that old Martin's map so people could see the general track layout.
I saw a sneak peak of next Saturday's actual course map on honda-tech.com. If you look hard enough you can find it. Happy hunting.

Ralph,
Being 16 (a minor), the one big thing you'll need to run in ANY autocross is a waiver signed by a parent or guardian. If you can bring one of them with you, you won't have any trouble. If you're planning to attend without them... odds are you won't be permitted to run unless you can get your hands on a waiver, get it signed and bring it with you.
Don't worry about classing to start with. Just relax and have fun at your first event. Let the folks at registration know that it's your first time and they'll hook you up with some guidance.

If so, looks pretty nice. Good job on creating a unique course.
So I guess this means we are going to run CCW on Sunday?
I am anxious to get back out there after 5 months of practice.

Correct, and yes, whatever the other day, it will be more CCW. Again, with a short crossover near the beginning/end, and without the entire back turn.

I don't regularly run the SCCA events, but from my feeble memory:
Entry fee for this event is $35 for non-members
Registration closes at 9am, so be earlier than that.
If you poke around on the CFRSCCA website enough, you'll find the event flyer (a PDF document) that will have all of this info and more.
C'mon guys, Ralph's typing might leave a bit to be desired, but he's very eager to try our sport... as such, he is the future of our sport and we should be helping him out more than harrassing him. And ignoring his questions makes your club look downright unfriendly. I don't have to tell you how valuable motivated young members are to an autocross organization. Here you have a newbie that's willing to drive to G'ville all the way from Orlando for his first event! You really ought to be capitalizing on his enthusiasm.

GIR is 35 for non-SCCA members. Most events are 30. Practice events and regular events are usually the same price.
Getting there between 7:30 and 8 is a good idea. Give yourself ~2 hours for the drive.
goto www.cfrsolo2.com there's a schedule on the left. scroll down until you see GIR Oct 11, 12, click that. That'll bring you to the schedule. Again, scroll down, and when you see GIR Oct 11, and 12th, click the date. This will bring you to the event flyer. All the important information is on that flyer.

I will only snub your offer if an offer to co-drive a faster vehicle is made. ;)

I guess it boils down to who's car has been faster at large track events you both have attended, you or Loren.
If I have a choice in which day I go it would usually be Sunday but I know that beggars can't be choosers.
I may have a better option though since I wrote my boss last night about the event and he might be interested in going.
Whether or not that means he will let me co-drive his vehicle is yet to be determined but I will know more in the next few days.
Its nice to know that I have quite a few good options available to me now. :D

Loren and I have only met once, and it was the Fairgrounds. I believe the times were within tenths... and we both on street tires.
FWIW, GIR for me = killing the set Hoosiers from Nationals.:) I'm guessing that'll be the determinig factor as to which car is faster...

Yep, running on Hoosiers will definitely make Jess's car the faster pick.
Jess's car might be a tad faster than mine, anyway. That and he's just a better driver than me. We were both on street tires at that event, but my street tires were better (S-03's vs... Kumho 712s or something?), and I didn't have much to show for it!

Does anyone know if there is any camping near the track?
Or can we camp at the track?
When I used to race dirt bikes we always camped right at the race site.
If not does anyone want to share a hotel room to save $$$ I am debating driving the 3+ hours:? to race.
The cost of such little track time is steering me to just go help out at Primus this weekend.
I did not mind driving 3 to 4 hours to race a 6-hour motorcycle enduro.
If we are extremely lucky, as we were at the fair grounds last month I still am only looking at 15-20 min of track time.
Thanks,

Hey, new competition for us Saturday... no doubt you'll be faster, but you might not be louder any more! I put a new muffler on the car today. Just a generic "turbo muffler" to replace the high-dollar stainless Jackson Racing muffler that was falling apart. Fairly quiet rumble at idle, but gets a little rowdy when the revs come up under load.
I like the sound, but not sure I'll be able to tolerate it for the daily commute. :(
On the plus side, the car feels more responsive in the mid-range. I like that.

It has a header as in it's not a cast manifold, but it's a stock piece. The cat is also stock. From there back is a 2.25" Jackson Racing exhaust... except for the muffler now.
The JR exhaust is mandrel bent and has a resonator in it still. I really was surprised at how loud it was when I removed the muffler. I thought the resonator would quiet it more than it did. I'm wondering if it's a true resonator, or just some sort of "expansion chamber".
Yours must be quiet (comparatively... I know it's not really quiet) due to all of the tight bends in that 6' of tube. The exhaust is rather pretzelish in those cars, isn't it?
PseudoRealityX

I'm looking forward to it. It's nice to run in an event that I'm not responsible for every now and then!
I invited my baby sister to come with me, she's 21. (don't get any ideas!) She was 3 when I graduated high school, and since I spent 15 years in KS after that, we really haven't gotten to spend a lot of time together. I might try to talk her into driving. :) After all, I was the bad influence who taught her to drive a stick in a mall parking lot when she was 14.
Should be a fun day all around.

Sounds like a bummer, Ralph. I think your best bet would be to write this event off and replace your alternator. (or maybe if you get that done Saturday, you can go to G'ville Sunday?)
There are still slots open at the SunRiders school for next Saturday. Might be a better choice for a first event, anyway.

BS was won handily by Kevin Kipta in an old 911. I think he wound up with FTD (not counting Brian Myers of course). He ran a 65.something. It was Don Alexanders day in CSP. A new set of Hoosiers and he was driving well too. I think his fast time was a 66.2, Jim B ran something like a 66.7 and I was another second back at 67.7. don't know what happend in DSP.
It rained all morning and at least for me that really sucked. Neal was doing well in the STi in the rain and ran a 68.xxx which was fastest in the morning. Stopped raining after lunch and the second heats (2 runs for a total of 5) were drier but not dry enough for Ian who took an ES MR2 swimming. Took about a half an hour for the NHRA guys to pull the car out of the water at the end of the long 180 at the back end of the track.
Some of the best stuff though was some guy in an SM Integra. He ended up running in the mid 68's on Azenis's. I heard he was one of GRM's new guys. Definitely fast.
As for me, I keep getting those penis enlargement emails but it bigger BALLS that I need for that off camber 180, especially with the small river of water draining across it right before the turn in to the little chicane like thing. Glad I went up there to run it once prior to the state championship. Speaking of which, who's going?

G.I.R. is fun. I'm pissed I had to miss it (again). 5 runs is great, there, so I'm guessing the turn out was fairly low. That Bay Bottom Crawl drew many of the regulars.
Kipta is fast. Do you know who was in 2nd (BS) and how far back?
So, Jesse, is your car o.k.? Sounds like the mid-engine design may have been a blessing <picturing the front being in a creek, in my mind>. And why didn't Ian run his S, he only needed to beat Kipta to lock up the season? I guess after a podium at Nat's. a local thing isn't too important.
If anyone can remember the DSP top 3 that would be helpful.

I could have put my own car in the Drink had my driver not cancelled on Thursday. I wanted to run the rental car because I really wanted to compare it's really incredible road manners with it's autox manners. I also wanted to run the S (however I was unaware of the points thing) So the arrangement was for me to drive the protege down and for a friend up here to Drive my S2000 dowe for me (the damage to the car is just wheels and tires, and I believe it to be just tires as the vibration goes away at any kinda speed and after a few min of driving). Well he decided that he wanted to get some things done around the house so I built a rack for the S2000 to carry the last tire that won't fit inside. On a last min decision Jim offered his race tires for the Protege so I decided to bring that. Jim backed out at the last min saying he didn't want to run a "slush box" . So I ended up With no S2000 and a Protege with some sappy A032R's for the front. Cords were showing the center of one of the fronts at the end of Saturday's practice so I tried to borrow a car. Anyway thats the reason for no S. :(
Anyway The way Jim and I figure it. This putting cars in the Drink thing goes by Age. Brian Did it first (at the oldest) followed by Jason (2nd oldest) now Me (3rd oldest). Jesse is about a month younger then me sooo, HE'S NEXT!!!! :D

That sucks about the car. At least with the 17's you don't have to get gouged on S0-2's.
I hear rumor of you running something different next season. I'd kill for an '04 S, but am stuck with the current one for quite some time. If your's gets sold to a regular Joe and not an autocrosser, let me make some bids on the Koni's, a set of wheels, and the Gendron bar. BTW, how'd you get 3 wheels inside? 2 in the passenger seat? I have no room for a trailer at home and am gonna have to come up with something for next season. I was thinking about one of those platforms for the senior citizen scooters (lark, rascal, you know the things), but don't know if that'll be compatible with the small 1.25 in. receiver hitches available for the S2K. If your homegrown rack works I'd like to see the design and copy it.

I'm sorry todd, the Koni's are spoken for. but I'll let ya know about one of the sets of wheels. Fact is I can't afford the car for another season unless I managed to win a whole bunch.
I get 2 wheels in the passanger seat, and one in the trunk, and then My home made shelf for the trunk I get one on top.
