Ummm well my question is basically if anybody has gone to Installer Institute or has any knowledge of them. From there website(www.installerinstitute.com (http://www.installerinstitute.com) ) it looks pretty good and with a graduation thing from there i figure people will more likely hire me cause its an actual school.
Problem is I have to make 4 grand to go there so I really want to know if its worth it.
Another thing is I could knock off 1 grand if I could get the MECP certification. I've looked on the site for MECP Certification and it says I can take the test at any local library.
Basically I apply and they will send it to the library and I can walk in take the test with a library person as the procter and i guess they send it back for scoring.
The problem is I don't know which tests to take or how to sign up for specific tests. And I don't know which study guides to get and where to get the study guides from.
I was hoping if I get the MECP Certification I can get a job at some car audio place this year and they might hire me on the basis that I will take the car audio classes this coming summer. After the three weeks at Installer Institute I would know how to make pretty much the basics of any basic or show system including plexiglass, fiberglass, and motorization so I guess it would benefit the people Im working for to hire me?
If anybody knows anything about these two or anything else I could do to get a nice car audio job please tell me and if you know of any other car audio schools I could look into please tell me that also.
-thanks for listening to my rambling peace
if you want, try to contact Erik Hill, down at select products in miami, he runs the CATS, car audio training school and they do have mecp certs available

Thanks man,
Does he have a website or do you have a phone number to contact him at?
Also do you know any pricing on the course and exactly the extent of the CATS course. Installer Institute covers
Introduction to Formal Installations - 5 days
Beyond Basic Installations - 5 days
Advanced Mobile Security and Navigation - 3 days
Advanced Enclosure Design - 2 days
Advanced Fabrication - 5 days
Im jus trying to get a good cover of all the necessary things. Also does the course offer a lot of hands on training? and can you work on your own car for the course?
You probly haven't really looked into it how I'm looking so you probly dont have answers for my questions but if you do have a phone number or an email address or website it would be really helpful.
-thanks for the help man, peace

Well, I'm ordering the MECP book for beginner install test so atleast I've made some progress, but theres a big problem. I contacted Erik Hill through email and he informed me that the classes were not going to be in session till early 2005 so if you have any other schools in florida or even out of florida that you could suggest, I'm trying to find something around a thousand in tuition because Installer Institute is around 4 thousand without MECP cert. , which will be way too hard for me to make. Thanks for helping me out man you seem to be the only one to every reply to the car audio forum besides saggleman hopefully if i learn some i can help out im surprised the car audio forum is this unused way too many people spend all there time in free 4 all.
-thanks again man peace

Do you know any contact information for it, because I've actually been searching for that ever since I saw him on tv and he said something about fishcamp. I really wanted to go but everytime i search for fishcamp it comes up with some fishing camp, and i search fishman audio theres only one site that comes up. What do you think will work in google search to find the site for fishcamp?

I searched on CarSound forums and the consensus seems to be that Fishcamp is no longer an establishment so im guessing its not open anymore and wont be for awhile if ever.
Without MECP Installer Institute is like 3,000 its a pretty high price but since Select Products isnt holding classes I think it's my easiest way of going about schooling.
Thanks for all the help man if hear anything about any other schools please tell me cause I want to keep my options open rather than hold myself to one school only for the decision.

schools are wa too much not worth it, but if you got the money i guess it will help, bu if you want to get a job at a custom stereo shop they dont care if you got MECP all that shows is that you can read a book and take a test. experiance is the key at custom shops the more cars you know the better

Thanks for helping me out guys, I just got my Study Guide and im starting to read it. Hopefully I'll take the test next weekend and then its off on a job search for the money to pay for Installer Institute. Im going mostly because I'd like the hands on experience not because I want it for a job, but 93ex says it helps anyways so thats a plus. Again thanks you guys answered a lot of my questions now i know what to do.
