Auto X at Daytona International Speedway

Other than it is at a rather cool place. :D

I see it will be run on the infeild how much pavment is there.

They have a 44-acre Lake in the infeild??? :roll:

Anyone plan on making the trip?

I might if it is a long course.

Here's a picture of the raceway. The infield seems to be pretty substantial. I've heard that at lunchtime, we may be getting to do a parade lap around the speedway. I'll find out who the event chair is and see if I can get some more of your questions answered.

I went to see some bike races last year and 3/4 of that road course is down in the infield. Looks like fun.

Heh... After the Rolex 24 @ Daytona, one of the infield exits was driving across the back straight and out the back of the track... I can't tell you how TEMPTING it was to hang a quick left and tear ass down the back straight :-D


I know the infield is pretty big road course-wise... It's HUGE compared to Gainesville, so I'm sure they could work out something GIR-ish there. Sounds like fun!

Hmm...looks like a good place for my first auto-x in the SS.

I will highlight all the infield areas of the roadcourse. There are actually 2 layouts. One is for the SCCA/Rolex/Ect, then there is a training track in the infield also that mates up with the parts of the infield course. I'll try to map it out and toss it up here.

There was an attempt earlier this year to have an autocross at DIS in conjunction with the SCCA road race drivers school. It didn't happen this year, yet may happen next year.

Since the SCCA drivers school only uses the infield portion of the track, the autocross was to be setup on the massive paved area at the exit of turn 2, and the beginning of the back straight.

Since the HSR event uses the whole 24hr road course, would it make sense to have the autocross on the back straight paved area, where it can be set up, and stay up, and be used between HSR activities??
