how much would this swap prob cost?
cheapest, you can find a tranny for 200-300, motor for 500-700
from there its a piece of cake

buy a 6m engine. and slap a 7m turbo setup on it....and you can run 13's cheaper and more simple. and dont have to replace the head gasket every day...

you could get keep the 5MGE and drop in a 7MGTE crank and match the reciprocating assembly. Then put on the 7MGTE induction system (turbo) and tune it w/ an AFC on the Dyno... Theres a guy around the 'burg w/ this car. I think his name is Brian, hes got a white MK2, beat lookin, and has small "Race Related" stickers on the rear quarter windows.
MK2 w/ a 7MGTE swap is a very potent car. Despite the fact its a Solid rear end w/ 4 lug hubs... it can be made to perform... probably better than the MK3, mod for mod... considering that the MK3 is a turd. the only weak spot on that setup would then be the W58 tranny... just swap in the R154 and youll be good.

If I remember from my supra days, the 7m-gte will drop in the mkII and will bolt right up to the auto tranny in the mkII provided the swapee and the engine are both autos. Then again, you'd force yourself into a boring way to transport yourself.
If the 7M-GTE will fit, won't then the 1JZ or 2JZ also fit? Of course it would be more expensive, and the wiring/computer stuff would get difficult. Would be preddy darn fast and a serious sleeper.

the car is a 5spd and will stay a 5spd
The 7MGTE will fit..... My friend has an MK2 with a 7MGTE with an upgraded CT.. when the motor was stock the car was getting 13's all day long at the track

flubyux2 the mk2 supras had independent rear suspension. it wasn't a dubble wishbone like the mk3. it had a semi-trailing arm rear set up just like my brothers 85 celica GT-S. the 2 cars were indentical from the front doors back. So if you see a 82-85 celica GT-S or supra it has independent rear suspension.

sounds like you are talking about eric. his car is a jdm 6m with 7m turbo stuff on it and a Safc for tuning.

ok so 200 is a great price then?
yea make sure it shifts nicely and check the mileage
don't wanna get stuck with a chewed up transmission
I think my friend might have a couple for sale if you want me to give him a ring.

so....what exactly is involved with this, wiring harness/ecu, motor, clutch/tranny, and be done w/ it...can a Mk3 rear end be swapped in, i know the MK2's dont have the strongest of rear ends..

It will basically drop right in . You can either bolt the 7m manifold on the 5M and boost it till it blows after you notch the manifold . Or just drop teh entire 7M-T motor in and wire it up nicly with a R154 . The MK2 Supra's rear is strong enough .

what is strong enuf?????
If it is as strong as the mk3 rear end then no I have went threw 3 rear ends in my supra and the one i got now has to come out so ..

Toyota motors rock but their rear ends and tranny's arn't the strongest. I've busted 2 rear ends and atleast 4 trannys. I know the r154 is stronger than a w58 but you will spend less if you build a w58 for ultimate strength. so if your going stock use the r154 but if your rebuilding go with the w58(cheaper and more abundant)

what about the TruTrak LSD's out of the 4X4's? :D, those are supposed to be pretty strong, one of those with a nice clutch/flywheel setup matched up to an R-154 should make for a damn nice driveline setup...time to cryo some axles?? ;)

you need a 1G-GTE... thatd be icy AND hott at the same time!!!
the MK3 likes the break panhard bars or something... some kinda bar breaks if you get a REAL good launch...i forget what it is...
anyways... a 7MGTE is more than enough for an MK2. 400 RWHP on a CT26-based turbo is within reach. imagine what 400 RWHP can do for you in a MK2 ;)

it'll probably be like that, 7m w/ 60-1 CT26 10* clip, set up for external gate, lexus/550's, s-afc, fmic, and some meatier tires in the back :D
flubyux2
10-15-2003, 12:08 AM
CT26/60trim, no clip... supporting fuel and air mods... 400 RWHP w/ good tuning on pump gas... nizzle!
wanna see the video again? :D

well, the dude with the 7mgte mkii that runs his mouth alot would be me. my name is william. the guy with the white beat looking mkii with the 6mgte is eric, i helped him turbo the car. i currently am looking for a red 84-86 mkii to replace my 84. some idiot ran a redlight awhile back and totalled it. it ran 13's on the stock motor@8psi with 3in exhaust and an hks smf intake with 3 cylinders low on compression. i rebuilt the engine about a week before the car got totalled so have a new7mgte waiting for a body. it ran harder at 5psi after the rebuild then it had previously at 12psi. i broke 2 diffs at sunshine after i lifted the rear suspension a bit, never made a full pass so dont have a slip. and the 1/4 mile passes were at bmp at 1 of the 1320 events before the suspension mod. all the mkiv guys told me i was running 7.7 in the 1/8th. my clutch was slipping really bad(never get a kevlar disc) so the 1/4's were in the high 13sec range. as soon as i shifted to third you could smell the clutch. anyway, if you have questions on the swap email me and ill tell you what you need to know.

oh yeah, and i bought a trutrac lsd to solve the diff problem, when i get another mkii i will have everything ready to test out to see if it will hold up. it should since with the gearing on most 4x4 rock crawlers you can see up to 1600lbs/ft at the wheels, and the lsd was designed for the front diff of a toy 4x4.
