Yeah, I saw fire streaming back looking through your rear window as you went down the track, that looked a bit hairy. Adding that up, was it a bad weekend or a good one?

I was glad to hear the pop on Friday night was not anything major. I was up in the tower when it happened.

You must enlighten us on your weekend, it sounds like it was interesting.

Please elaborate on your weekend.

That was the first time I have seen any of these cars in person.
I only saw the 240 go down the track once, and that was it's final pass. I was around half-track getting a drink of water and some mosquito spray.

Looked like a hairy ride that could have gone much worse.

Glad to hear it wasn't that bad.

The car was impressive...in fact, I was impressed by yours and a few others.

No, the flat was on the truck towing the trailer. It was at 3am Saturday while driving to GA for the PRO race which I was disqualifed from for going too fast.

Fast240Z-
What class did you (attempt to) run in?

I am familiar with the class rules, we looked long and hard at campaigning a "Cheap Street" ride for this year, but instead we moved to Florida...... :)

I went all the way up there to run in 'true street'. That is the class I ran in April and won. Anything goes as far as the car is concerned, but you have to be street legal and be able to drive 30 miles out on the road. When you return you are allowed to put slicks on the car and fill up your fuel. You then run three back to back passes down the track without touching the car.

I was the fastest car by far, but they disquailifed me for going too fast. During tech they told me I did not have a certified chassie, but said that would not be a problem this time. After my first pass they told my I could not go faster than 10.00. My next pass I slowed the car to 9.80 and they kicked me out. I am now taking measures so that never happens to me again.

That was the cherry on top of the malt for the weekend. With everything that happened we still had a good time. This is the stuff stories are made of. We will be talking about the past weekend for a long time.

Mark, are you going to be racing at any of the heads-up events happening at Sunshine or Bradenton in the next couple of weeks?

CLICK HERE (http://www.fasteststreetcar.com/2003/event5/results.html) and scroll down to True Street to see qualifying results as well as race results.

You'll find that the overall winner of True Street was not even remotely close to Fast240Z's ET's.

From what I've gathered in talking with others on the issues such as these, the promoter has to enforce the sanctioning body rules of the track. Commerce is NHRA so you have to meet their specificiations, if not then (in the famous words of a FFW announcer) YAOUT!...
When I was running FFW Street Bandit since the majority of the cars were running 9's, all cars were required to have the appropriate saftey gear (cage, 3 layer jacket/pants, neck collar, gloves, etc)...
Luckily for me, I only need to get my chassis re-certified this coming year... :)

Stroked85-
Sounds about right, depends on what track you're at.

Taken directly from the rules found in "True Street" from Pro's website-

CLASS & SAFETY REQUIREMENTS
It is the participant's responsibility to familiarize oneself with the class requirements as found in the 2003 PRO rulebook and the safety requirements as found in the 2003 NHRA rulebook.
The participant agrees that the participant bears the ultimate responsibility at all times to ensure the safety of participant's vehicle and to ensure that participant complies with all applicable NHRA & PRO rules. The participant agrees that participant is in the best position to know about the construction and operation of participant's vehicle, equipment, and clothing, and whether there has been compliance with all applicable NHRA & PRO rules.

That is all they say, in the most vague fashion, about roll cages, saftey gear, etc...

I found that when we were seriously looking into running in some Pro events, and trying to find a class to fit into, their message board was very helpful. The tech officials were very responsive to any questions I had concerning my interpretation of the rules.

No, my car is completely apart and going through a make over. I am making sure what happened to me never happens again. The Z is going to the chassie shop for some new ehaust and some different frame rails and a chute. Fun stuff. It will be down for about a month.
