I have one 10 in my car now (kicker) I am wanting to switch to two JL 8's because I listen to a lot of electronic music that has a lot of fast hits. Not that the ten can't recover fast enough, but what would the pros/cons be?

I have a single JL W3 10" in a JL box, and all kinds of music sound fine. However, I don't pay much attention anyway, so I wouldn't know. Just thought I'd share for no reason whatsoever...

The old JL 8w6 were awesome subs. If you could find some on Ebay you'd be very happy. Very ballsy for an 8". You may be able to achieve the desired effect with your kicker. What kind of enclosure is it in? What model kicker is it?

there's a whole lot of variables that have to be accounted for. do you have a sealed, ported, or bandpass box? i've got a 12w3v2 in a sealed box and that thing hits just as fast as any other sub i've owned.

to me this is a common myth, as 8's will inhereitly have alighter cone/motor strucutre, wnat about the frequncy reponse? and the power handling? imho a properly powered quality sub will sound good with just about any size.. and when was the last time you went to a club listing to electronic music and the speakers had 8's for the low?

To be quite honest you'd probably be pretty damn happy if you crossed your sub over lower and got some nice midbass speakers. Since that's where alot of the electronic stuff happens.

I do, I have 4 JL 6.5's with four tweeters. The 6.5's are not amped though. They are just using the internal 50x4 on my head unit. The 10 kicker CVR is in a ported box. Don't get me wrong, it sounds good I was just wondering if this would make a large diffrence or not?

Yeah your HU is probably more like 10x4. An amp on those speakers would do alot more to improve the sound of your system than smaller subs. Get a nice amp that suits the power needs of those speakers. Lowpass your sub @70-80hz and highpass your 6.5" at the same freq. You'll be very happy :)

BTW what is your box tuned to and where do you have the x-over set now? and do you have a ss filter?

No, I don't know much about stereos, just the basics and my buddy helps me a little with trying to tune it all. The box is a box max ported and it met the space requirments for that sub. Are you the guy with the dark blue jetta with two 12's that hung out a Kmart a few times a while back?

ummm I have a dark blue jetta with 2 12s but I didn't hang out at kmart. You're probably thinking of Troy...

He is correct! My e12o.14 is very tight and fast hitting. I have a few bass tracks with complicated and fast changing bass, and it plays them flawlessly and I can hear every change.

I agree here... what you need to do is amp those 6.5's, and possibly dynamat your enclosures in your doors and rear deck... that will fill in where you want it.
