Results are starting to come in
Jesse finished up the day in 7th place a little over 1 sec off the lead in ES. Gary Merideth is 12th in STS, again about 1 sec off. Mark Chiles is 2nd in HS. Check out results as they come in at http://scca.org/amateur/solo2/nationals/2003/results/index.html

In looking at some of the results I see that the fastest times were BM, as a mater of fact even CM was a lot faster than AM.

The first place AM would not even have received a trophy in BM. :o

Interesting

I think they entered the course info wrong, the run groups show AM on the North Course and BM on the South Course for Tuesday. Must be.

It's no BS, Ian is a strong second place in B stock only 29 thousandth's off the lead. Todd, get some race rubber and you'd be in the trophies no doubt.

And Neil Tovsen is 2nd in SM.

It takes more than race rubber. Ian is just an awesome driver...Miata, S-2000, Volvo, whatever. He generally whoops my ass by 3 to 5 seconds. I'd bet you add that gap to the results and I'd be the punk in 58th hating the drive home. I probably won't be running with those guys in the raw talent department next year either. I hear my car will NOT be a strong BS contender anymore, anyway.

I'm sorry Jesse ended 8th, but maybe Ian or Neal will bring home a championship.

I don't know Todd - If I did the math right, last time you and Ian went head to head you were 2.25 seconds back - That's about what the R compound tires are worth. I guess the real test would be at a national though. I'm starting to see what the differance in course design is like just looking at the pictures from the nationals. I guess I do need to head down to GCAC to see what that level is really all about. Speaking of the pictures - What happend to Bob's 3 foot wide (exageration) tires? Track looked dry enough for them - what do I know.
Here's to two CFR national Champions - that would be very cool.

Actually, Brian, at the last FSF event where Ian drove the FrankenVolvo he took his two last runs in the Mineharts' MR2-T and on his first run in that car (ever) he was already more than a second better on a course I knew well <was there at 6 a.m. making it>.

I do appreciate the compliment, but I don't expect to be on that level in the near future. I was 3rd in Ft. Myers last weekend with two non-pro's ahead of me in prepped S2K's. I guess when I finally get a real set-up we'll see.

Yeah - there's definitely a few folks around here who can help show me how to drive. Can't wait for the 21st - I'll be at sunriders on the 20th.

I'm REALLY REALLY happy with 8th.

Trophying against the likes of the guys in ES nationally is very gratifying. Especially considering I changed the entire setup of the car on Wednesday, the day before I left to goto Kansas.

Less than 3 years autocrossing and trophying at Nats.....yeah, I'll take it.:)

At Nationals, there are 2 totally seperate courses.

AM ran on the North Course first, while BM and CM ran the South course first. To compound that, as the day goes on, it get's warmer and more rubber is laid down by previous cars. VERY hard to compare times, unless the cars were all in the same Heat.

Also, Gary Milligan, usually the fastest AM driver, didn't come this year.

So that's either 5 or 6 CFR folks in the trophies.

Does anyone know this guy?
T 4 43 Britt Laughlin 02 Mini Cooper S Yellow Hoosier 083

I saw him at Sebring and he was hauling ass.
I see he has some times at GCAC and that he is on the atkins diet from a quick google search...
http://www.sptimes.com/News/102301/Floridian/A_day_on_Britt_s_plat.shtml

Wonder why he hasn't been to any CFR west events.

Britt drives the yellow Cooper S that shows up at CFR events. He often SMOKES everyone on PAX...he's damn good!

***ANY*** trophy at Nationals is a major accomplishment. I know some damn good drivers who have never trophied. One of them finally did this year. In particular, the Stock classes are ULTRA competitive. Last year, I was able to be at the top of PAX at CFR events on a regular basis, but I didn't trophy at Nat's. Just look at Danny Shields...8th place! If someone that good can go to nat's and "only" get 8th place, you know there's some serious competition! And even though Darrin DiSimo is one of the best drivers in the country, he still doesn't have a Championship after all these years. Jesse, Ian, Danny, and Britt all were running in the toughest classes in Solo-II. I think I heard the announcer say that GS had something like 8 previous National Champs in it.

In my case, three of the four people ahead of me are past National Champions, driving M3's that had carbon/kevlar seats and forged wheels worth more than half my VW. I'm pretty happy!! The same is true for Bob, I'm sure.

The fact that CFR (and FL in general) had a number of trophies is simply because we have a lot of really good drivers around here. Most regions can't say that!
