I have a Sony Explode motorized flip face head unit. The rear harness has about 8 wires or so of assorted colors. My unit is not powering up and I need to trouble shoot this. There is a red wire and I assume this would be power but I don't have the factory book. Can anyone help?

Color coding of your Sony harness will be:
Red: 12v Ignition
Yellow: 12v Constant
Black: Ground
White - White Black: F/L Speaker
Grey - Grey/Black: F/R
Green - Green/Black: R/L
Purple - Purple/Black: R/R
Orange: Illumination
Blue: 12v Rem
Blue/White: 12v Rem/Fact. Amp

Your GM Harness is NOT colored to an aftermarket deck. You have 3 options.
1) Use a search engine and look under scosche or metra for your vehicles Yr, Make, Model wiring diagram.
2) Go to an audio store, Circuit, Best Buy, Sound Advice or cust shops and buy a harness($17 or so) which is a plug pinned to the color coding of your vehicle which you plug into your vehicles harness which makes the colors color coded to the aftermarket (sony) harness. ie: red to red, yellow to yellow, black to black etc...
3) Use a probe or even a test light and find a wire thats hot(has current) while your vehicles off.(thatll be your yellow) and then put your key in the ignition and turn it to the on position and find another wire that now has current and that will be your ignition wire(red).

Thanks. I will check it out tonight. All of this was working up till a couple weeks ago. This was on my Nissan not my GM though.

Ok say goes with Nissan as does GM. Each Manf. has their own wiring, even some models may be different. you can still follow all of those steps. maybe check the fuse on the back of the radio if there is one. check your ignition/radio fuse in your fuse box. may also wanna check dome(sometimes they tie into weird fuses). check under the hood in that fuse box also. if the wiring was working previously you either have
1)no power
2)no ground
3)blown radio
Get a test light and check your wires at the source of the sony harness and all your fuses, and check the ones that you may not think will run inline with your radio also to be thorough. Stay away from large pink coated wires and any fuse that says airbag. if these steps do not work make sure your ground is solid and secure that your radio is using. if it boils down to it remove the radio, connect 12v from your battery to the red and yellow, then ground it to the chassis and see if it even powers up. if not your radio is fried.
