1968 Shelby Gt 500, 460HP 440CI 5 speed
This is a true 1968 Shelby Gt 500.
This car came into the shop middle of last week. It has a hydravac brake system that doesn't seam produce a firm pedal. That and a couple of other small problems keep this car from being just amazing. Enjoy the pics.

Beautiful car but miles away from a true GT-500.

Beautiful car, Shaun. You think the owner would notice if we did a little trade? My car for his?

Please explain! I would like to know the diff between this and a true one.
The car looks amazing! I would prob pay to drive that thing around the block just so i can feel what its like. One of my all time favorite cars. It's obviously a restore, but the ? is....is it a true GT500 or a fastback converted? either way, beautiful car!

Missed ths one by a few weeks
Nice looking car. I do know a few things about these
First, unless someone took an original GT500, then modified it with the Eleanor setup (which I guess is possible but would trash the value on a real Shelby), this is probably not in the Shelby Registry. AFAIK, the only Eleanor cars that were entered into the registry are the ones built by the now bankrupt Unique Performance. Those cars can be identified by their TCP suspension and the "GT500E" label on the side of the car.
That said - this is one of the best eleanor conversions that I've seen. Whoever did this did a great job.Jeff

I was told by the new owner he has a stack of documentation stating it is a true GT500 purchased in CT. in 1967 and delivered in February of 1968. He also told us he has a Shelby plaque that was sold with the car in 68. Completely agree about it ruining the value of the car. But to me... I'd rather mod a 68 fastback then touch a Shelby. Shelby's just a name to me, I like my cars my way, not his way.

Here's his car showing the restoration they did. They obviously did a great job - but they also built it to sell it. No mustang shop wanting to turn a profit on a car is going to put the effort into turning a real shelby into an eleanor..as opposed to restoring it as a real shelby.. (I say that, but I think unique did it for Jerry Bruckheimer)
Mustangs to Fear
I hope they didn't tell him that it was a Shelby in order to get him to buy it. Might be best not to say anything to him at this point.Jeff
